a0fafedfa0 feat(#2103): drive VS Code through the Embeddable Orchestration System (ADR-1239)
VS Code is a net-new EoS runtime that — unlike every prior migration — is NOT
CLI-installed (Marketplace/VSIX extension). It has zero runtime==='vscode'
branches in bin/install.js and stays that way (regression-guarded); it is driven
entirely through the negotiated imperative Host-Integration adapter.

Registry + validator (the hard part):
- capabilities/vscode/capability.json (role:runtime): full hostIntegration block
  (imperative / palette / active vscode.lm model / engine hook bus /
  sandboxed-storage / mcp transport / sandboxed-web runtime; dispatch nested,
  maxDepth 5 per VS Code's documented subagent depth).
- capability-validator.cjs extended so a role:runtime capability can legitimately
  declare "extension-distributed, no config directory": new configHome.kind:'none'
  + installSurface:'none' (+ GATE-A pairing + the parity maps), with localConfigDir
  and configHome.name made conditional on kind!=='none'. All 18 runtimes still
  validate; getDirName returns a distinct sentinel (not '.claude') for a no-config
  runtime.
- The add-a-registry-runtime tax: NON_INSTALLABLE_RUNTIMES exemption in the
  runtime-flags drift guard, vscode added to global-config-home SPECIAL_CASED,
  EXPECTED_PROFILES.vscode='ide', and the config-adapter/derivation/pin-count
  guards updated. No golden-install fixture, model-catalog, or CONFIGURATION rows
  (vscode never enters allRuntimes).

Dispatch + extension surface:
- Fixed vscode/extension.js's createHub()-no-args bug (every dispatch was
  UnknownCommand, masked by a vacuous reachability test) — now reuses the shared
  dispatchGsdCommand subprocess-shim (Node/desktop); the reachability test is
  tightened to assert real dispatch.
- Promoted the #1933 host binding to a shipped vscode/host-binding.js; activate()
  now composes the model/hookBus/stateIO seams through it. Corrected the model
  seam to VS Code's real API (vscode.lm.selectChatModels() -> model.sendRequest();
  vscode.lm.sendRequest does not exist) so the binding actually composes on real
  desktop VS Code instead of throwing.
- New vscode/browser.js Web Extension entry with ZERO Node APIs (the engine's
  config/capability loading is Node-bound, so the web entry registers the surface
  and directs full dispatch to the native MCP server — honestly documented).
- UPGRADE 1: GSD skills as native Language Model Tools (contributes.languageModelTools
  + vscode.lm.registerTool), invoke() dispatching through the hub.
- UPGRADE 2: native subagent dispatch wired onto #runSubagent /
  chat.subagents.allowInvocationsFromSubagents (fail-soft on API availability,
  maxDepth 5 enforced).
- vscode/package.json: browser entry, engines.vscode ^1.105, chatParticipants +
  languageModelTools contributions; fixed a stale activationPoints->activationEvents
  manifest key. Added "vscode" to the package files array.

Docs (## vscode matrix section) + changeset (Added).

79d7657eff feat(#2102): make pi a first-class installable runtime + fix its dispatch (ADR-1239)
Net-new EoS/pi installable runtime — purely additive (no prior runtime==='pi'
branches). pi is a bun-runtime programmatic-CLI whose /gsd command is registered
by a native ExtensionAPI extension and dispatches through the embedded engine.

Stage 1 (install plumbing):
- capabilities/pi/capability.json: full hostIntegration descriptor (imperative /
  slash-programmatic / active-model / native-extension / bun) + hostBehaviors
  {nativePlugin, pluginOnlyInstall}.
- --pi flag + interactive-menu renumber (All 17->18); pi added to RUNTIME_FLAG_IDS,
  RUNTIME_LABELS, RUNTIME_META, allRuntimes/runtimeMap, model-catalog defaults.
- Install mirrors OpenCode: pi installs the gsd.cjs extension + the shared engine
  payload (gsd-core + scripts + config markers) + the shared hooks bundle (spawned
  by the extension at lifecycle events, like OpenCode's plugin). pluginOnlyInstall
  EXCLUDES declarative command/agent/skill markdown, which pi has no host-read
  surface for (its /gsd is programmatic). _installNativePluginIfDeclared (extracted
  from the opencode-family path) copies pi/gsd.cjs -> ~/.pi/agent/extensions/gsd.cjs
  (global) / .pi/extensions/ (local). pi added to package.json files.
- Golden: new pi.json (320 files: extension + engine + 27-file hooks bundle, no
  markdown); the 16 other fixtures + claude-local change only by the shared
  model-catalog hash line.

Stage 2 (real dispatch + upgrades):
- Shared dispatchGsdCommand() (shell-command-projection): bounded, no-throw
  subprocess-shim to gsd-tools.cjs (the only full-surface dispatch path; no
  in-process full-hub factory exists). Fixes pi/gsd.cjs's createHub()-no-args bug
  (every dispatch was UnknownCommand) AND the identical bug in mcp-server.cts's
  gsd_invoke_command, which a vacuous unknown-family-only test had masked (now has
  a real dispatch regression test).
- pi/gsd.cjs: /gsd handler now (args, ctx) - tokenizes (quote-aware, via the
  shipped hooks/lib/git-cmd.js) + dispatches real family/subcommand (not hardcoded
  query/help); gsd_invoke gets a TypeBox (JSON-schema-fallback) parameters schema +
  consumes params; getArgumentCompletions; before_provider_request active-model
  steering (fail-open on null resolution); functional session_start /
  before_agent_start / session_before_compact hook bridges (spawn the shipped GSD
  hook scripts).
- EXTENSION_EVENT_SURFACES.pi expanded from ['tool_call'] to the full 30-event
  vocabulary.

Docs (host-integration matrix + how-to) + changeset (Added).

60e3c4988a feat(#2182): scaffold community capability + EoS registry (tests + stubbed core)
Adds the discoverability-registry surface for issue #2182: JSON-sourced
capability/eos catalogs, a pure schema/vocab module (registry-schema.cjs)
with the ADR-857 loop points + ADR-1239 axes, thin validate/gen CLIs,
the registry-entry PR template, README spec, and CONTEXT.md glossary terms.

The three pure functions (isValidGsdRange/validateEntries/renderMarkdown)
are stubbed here so the comprehensive test suite fails first (red), per the
feature-implementation red-first directive; the next commit implements them.

09be501eb7 feat(#2128): phase-id anti-divergence guard — canonical token source + drift scanner + guards
Phase 4 of epic #2121 (ADR-2121 Decision 7), closing the recurrence loop that
produced #2111 / #2114 / #2104: no module outside src/phase-id.cts may
re-implement phase-ID parsing without failing CI.

- phase-id.cts: add PHASE_NUMBER_TOKEN_SOURCE — the canonical phase-number-token
  grammar (\d+[A-Z]?(?:\.\d+)*) for enumeration/scan call sites, the ANY-phase
  counterpart to phaseMarkdownRegexSource(n)'s known-number lookup. Extend-only
  (never touches normalizePhaseName; blast radius 79 fns / CRITICAL).
- scripts/lint-phase-id-drift.cjs: pure findPhaseIdRegexDrift(text) + scanRepo(root),
  wired to `npm run check:phase-id-drift`. Flags a literal re-derivation of the
  canonical token (both /\d/ and new-RegExp `\\d` escaping, plus the [A-Za-z] and
  [.-] near-variants) anywhere in src/** outside phase-id.cts, unless sanctioned
  with `// phase-id-owner: <reason>`. Narrow by design: bare \d+, digits-only
  captures, \w ids, status-message text and pipe-tables are not flagged.
- tests/phase-id-drift-guard.test.cjs: fail-first drift cases (AC1) + live
  scanRepo(ROOT) zero-drift (AC3) + identity guard — phase-id.cjs exports the
  complete locked surface and no consumer re-exports a divergent copy (AC2).

8f2ebbe9bf feat(#1928): remove sunset Gemini CLI runtime, redirect to Antigravity (#1996)
* feat(#1928): remove sunset gemini cli runtime, redirect to antigravity

Google sunset Gemini CLI on 2026-06-18; Antigravity CLI is its official successor (already a first-class GSD runtime). Remove the gemini runtime from the enum (16->15), aliases, labels, config-home fragment, install path, converters (convertClaudeToGemini{Markdown,Toml,Agent}, convertSlashCommandsToGeminiMentions), capability descriptor, gemini-extension.json, RULESET.GEMINI.*, and the interactive menu (renumbered, no gap).

--gemini now prints an explicit deprecation notice citing the 2026-06-18 sunset and redirects to --antigravity (no silent alias, per the issue's Hyrum's-Law rejection). Antigravity is preserved throughout: its GEMINI.md contextFileName, .gemini/antigravity config home, the shared convertGeminiToolName/claudeToGeminiTools tool vocabulary, and the 'gemini' hookEvents dialect it declares. GEMINI.md retargeted as Antigravity's context file.

* chore(#1928): drop Gemini CLI from issue templates (review nit)

Removes the sunset Gemini CLI runtime from the two GitHub issue-template
runtime lists that the removal PR missed, per @davesienkowski's review nit:
- feature_request.yml: 'Applicable runtimes' checkbox (a user could otherwise
  request a feature for a runtime GSD no longer supports)
- bug_report.yml: 'Runtime' dropdown + the stale ~/.gemini/settings.json
  retrieval-help line

Leaves the post-removal templates fully consistent with the Antigravity redirect.

b0bd2f7a48 chore: move committed-generated-artifact freshness checks to lint:ci (#2000)
gsd-test's build leg runs the full 'npm run build' (which regenerates
capability-registry.cjs, loop-host-contract.cjs, package-identity.cjs, etc.),
so committed-freshness guards that lived in the unit suite were masked there:
gsd-test passed a stale-commit that CI's shard-1/3 test then red-flagged
(caught live on PR #1998). The mandated pre-push gate was green on a commit
CI correctly flagged.

Move the committed-state --check guards into a new 'lint:generated-sync'
script wired into lint:ci (the single orchestrated entry point the lint-tests
CI job already runs on a build:lib-only tree, so the committed artifacts are
checked without regeneration). gsd-test no longer contains these guards, so
it can no longer mask them.

- package.json: add lint:generated-sync (7 generators --check); wire into lint:ci.
- generate-package-identity.cjs: add --check mode (was the only generator
  without it); no-arg behaviour unchanged (still writes, as build expects).
- Remove the committed-freshness guards from the unit suite, keeping all
  behavioral/structural tests:
    - capability-registry.test.cjs: drop the --check describe.
    - loop-host-contract.test.cjs: drop the committed-file staleness test
      (keep the normalizeLineEndings unit test).
    - capability-matrix-sync.test.cjs: drop --check + byte-for-byte (keep the
      architectural content invariants: every cap appears, security ship:pre).
    - issue-844-manifest-version-sync.test.cjs: drop describe D (--check).
    - issue-498-package-identity.test.cjs: drop the drift-check test (keep
      behavioral module-export tests); drop the now-unused render import and
      its allow-test-rule exemption (allowlist ratcheted 175 -> 174).

ff6b5cb024 feat(#1914): OpenCode native plugin integration (Option 1 file-copy) (#1923)
* feat(#1914): OpenCode native plugin integration (Option 1 file-copy)

Ship a native OpenCode plugin (.opencode/plugins/gsd-core.js) plus the
installer step that delivers it, so GSD's lifecycle hooks run on OpenCode.
OpenCode declares hooksSurface:'none', so GSD's hook scripts already ship to
<configDir>/hooks/ but nothing invokes them; the plugin bridges OpenCode's
event bus onto those scripts as subprocesses (prompt/read/worktree/workflow
guards, injection scanner, context monitor).

Distribution is Option 1 (file copy) per the #1914 triage decision: no
scripts.build rename, no prepare/prepack removal. package.json gains
main + .opencode in files[] for discovery.

Corrected against OpenCode's docs + loader source (not the reference branch):
- Auto-discovery globs {plugin,plugins}/*.{ts,js} — .cjs is never matched, so
  the installed adapter must be .js (config dir carries {"type":"commonjs"}).
- No opencode.json plugin-array patch — that array is npm-only; local files
  are auto-discovered.
- REPO_ROOT is resolved by walking up to the dir holding hooks/ + gsd-core/,
  correct for package tree, global install, and local install.
- Config-hook registration is gated (IS_PACKAGE_TREE) so it never
  double-registers commands/agents/skills already delivered by native copy.

Also fixes an incidental .gitignore drift: 8 ADR-1239 .cts-generated .cjs
artifacts were untracked-and-not-ignored (leak risk) — now ignored.

Tests: tests/opencode-plugin-adapter.test.cjs (14, pure helpers + real
subprocess bridge against stub hooks); golden-install-parity regenerated.
Green on Mac + Linux (gsd-test): 0 failures.

* fix(#1914): harden OpenCode plugin export shape + advisory accumulation (adversarial findings)

Address Codex adversarial-review findings:
- HIGH: export `{ id, server }` could trip OpenCode's loader
  (`for (entry of Object.values(mod)) getServerPlugin(entry)` throws on a
  non-extractable value). Make `id` NON-ENUMERABLE and assign module.exports
  from a variable (not a literal) so no string `id` is ever iterated — verified
  loader-safe under real import(pathToFileURL) (default + module.exports alias,
  both objects with .server; no bare id string).
- MEDIUM: sequential advisory hooks clobbered output.metadata._gsdAdvisory;
  now accumulate into an array.
- LOW: resolveRepoRoot fallback returned ".." while the comment said "../.." —
  aligned to "../.." (package-tree depth).

Tests: added a faithful loader-loop emulation (raw CJS + ESM namespace views),
advisory-accumulation, and a real bin/install.js copy→manifest→uninstall
integration test. golden regenerated.

* fix(#1914): Windows — assert rewritten path with string include, not path-regex

The Read content-rewrite test built a RegExp from `path.join(root,'gsd-core')`.
On Windows the backslashes in the path are interpreted as regex escapes, so the
assertion never matched and `test (windows-latest, 24)` failed — even though the
adapter rewrote the path correctly. Replace the RegExp with a separator-agnostic
`String.includes` check (the repo's no-path-literal-in-assert concern).

41193a44bd feat(#1681): ADR-1239 Phase C-2 — gsd-mcp-server bin entry + lifecycle test [slice 3b] (#1810)
* feat(#1681): ADR-1239 Phase C-2 — gsd-mcp-server bin entry + lifecycle test [slice 3b]

Phase 4 slice 3b (closes #1681). The companion MCP server bin entry so any
MCP-consuming host connects via 'npx gsd-mcp-server' (or its bin on PATH) and
gets GSD command (point 1) + state IO (point 5) with no bespoke plugin.

- gsd-core/bin/gsd-mcp-server.cjs: #!/usr/bin/env node shim requiring
  ./lib/mcp-server.cjs + runServer({stdin, stdout}); non-zero exit on fatal
  error (justified n/no-process-exit disable). Mirrors gsd-tools.cjs.
- package.json: add 'gsd-mcp-server' bin entry.
- tests/gsd-mcp-server-bin.test.cjs: 3 process-lifecycle tests — initialize +
  tools/list round-trip + clean exit, malformed-line -> parse error + server
  keeps running, empty stdin -> clean exit. Synchronous spawnSync (bounded;
  server exits on stdin EOF, no orphan).

Phase 4 trust-gate (#1806) + loader wiring (#1808) + server module (#1809) +
this bin/lifecycle slice = all of #1681's deliverables. Concrete host binding ->
Phase 5 (#1682). npm-integrity + eslint + security + inventory all clean.

* docs(#1681)+chore(changeset): how-to for the companion MCP server + Added fragment

docs/how-to/connect-gsd-mcp-server.md — Diataxis how-to guide for connecting
any MCP-capable host to gsd-mcp-server: goal-oriented flow (add config → restart
→ verify), real-world per-host conditionals, troubleshooting, and a trimmed
reference table. Explanation/reference linked out (ADR-1239, capability-trust-
model) per Diataxis boundary rules rather than mixed in.

.changeset/humble-seals-rest.md — type: Added (first user-reachable surface of
the epic: a new bin command). The how-to doc satisfies the docs-required gate.

* fix(#1681): move gsd-mcp-server shim to top-level bin/ (out of the runtime-copied tree)

The shim at gsd-core/bin/gsd-mcp-server.cjs was inside the tree the installer
copies into every runtime config dir, so it leaked into all 16 runtimes and
broke golden-install-parity. The MCP server is a PACKAGE bin the host spawns
(npx gsd-mcp-server), not a per-runtime artifact — so it belongs at top-level
bin/ alongside install.js (which is also never copied into a runtime config).

- gsd-core/bin/gsd-mcp-server.cjs -> bin/gsd-mcp-server.js (require path now
  ../gsd-core/bin/lib/mcp-server.cjs).
- package.json: bin entry -> bin/gsd-mcp-server.js.
- tests/gsd-mcp-server-bin.test.cjs: SHIM path updated.
- eslint.config.mjs: add bin/gsd-mcp-server.js to the bin/install.js block
  (drops the n/no-process-exit disable — the n plugin isn't loaded for that
  block, so the disable referenced an undefined rule).

golden-install-parity 16/16 restored; lifecycle + unit tests green; eslint 0;
lint:ci all ok.

d7da068dd7 fix(#1498): regenerate capability-registry.cjs in npm version lifecycle hook (#1499)
* fix(#1498): regenerate capability-registry.cjs in npm version lifecycle hook

The version npm lifecycle script now runs gen-capability-registry.cjs --write
after sync-manifest-versions.cjs stamps all capability/*.json version fields.
Without this, every npm version X.Y.Z call left capability-registry.cjs stale
(capability JSONs got the new version string, but the registry still embedded
the old ones), causing gen-capability-registry.cjs --check to fail in the RC

8040a6bac0 chore(#1417): add resolution-provenance CI guard (Resolution Provenance P4) (#1428)
Adds scripts/lint-resolution-provenance.cjs — a registry + ratchet CI guard
that locks in the agent-skills configured_empty/not_configured contract tests
so they cannot be silently removed, and establishes a registration point for
future config-interpreting read verbs (ADR-1411 P4).

Design rationale:
- REGISTRY (one entry: agent-skills → src/init.cts → tests/agent-skills.test.cjs)
  is the canonical registration site; new verbs are added here.
- For each registered verb, the guard asserts its test file contains BOTH a
  `configured_empty` assertion AND a `not_configured` assertion — proving the
  configured-empty-vs-not-configured contract is explicitly tested.
- NOT a universal static detector (intractable / false positives) — mirrors the
  no-adhoc-markdown-parsing grandfather pattern.
- Uses scripts/lib/allowlist-ratchet.cjs (assertWithinAllowlist) so stale
  allowlist entries fail (ratchet-down) and novel offenders always fail.
- checkRegistry() is factored as a pure exported function tested in
  tests/lint-resolution-provenance.test.cjs without shelling out.
- Wired into lint:ci (package.json) and lint step name updated in test.yml.
- CONTEXT.md ### Resolution Convention extended with P4 guard sentence.
- Allowlist starts empty ([]) — agent-skills already has its tests.

  remove its .gitignore + eslint-ignore entries)
- delete scripts/lint-core-spine-imports.cjs + its allowlist; drop it from the
  package.json lint:ci chain
- regenerate docs/INVENTORY-MANIFEST.json (drops the core.cjs surface)
- sweep stale references: CONTEXT.md glossary back-compat clauses (spine retired,
  callers import the leaf directly), planning-config.md CONFIG_DEFAULTS owner,
  and false present-tense core.cjs claims in leaf-module docstrings

The ADR-857 decomposition is complete: the former Core god-module is fully
dissolved into its leaf modules; no re-export spine remains. No behaviour change.

Closes #1294

* fix(#1294): migrate the computed-path core.cjs importers the literal grep missed

bin/install.js used require(path.join(_gsdLibDir, 'core.cjs')) (a computed
path, and bin/install.js was never in the convergence lint's scan roots), and
~8 test files referenced core.cjs via path.join/readFileSync/existsSync/FILE_ARG
forms the literal-string migration grep missed. Route install.js's symbols to
their leaves (RUNTIME_PROFILE_MAP->model-catalog, resolveTierEntry/EFFORT_SET->
model-resolver) and repoint/adjust the test references to the leaves. Recovers
the 161 'Cannot find module core.cjs' failures from the spine deletion.

48d9cec6fe refactor(#1268): re-home core re-export-spine squatters + migration-convergence lint (#1272)
Re-home the 6 implementation functions squatting in the core.cjs re-export
spine (ADR-857) into the modules whose interface they belong to, with core
re-exporting them BY REFERENCE so all 32 callers + the shim-identity tests
keep resolving unchanged:
- worktree-safety: resolveWorktreeRoot, pruneOrphanedWorktrees
- git-base-branch (broadened to the Git Query Module): gitWorktreeInfoInternal
- agent-install-check (new leaf): getAgentsDir, checkAgentsInstalled
- delete the _resetRuntimeWarningCacheForTests wrapper; consumers use a
  shared resetRuntimeWarningCaches() helper in tests/helpers.cjs

Add scripts/lint-core-spine-imports.cjs (migration-convergence lint with a
30-importer allowlist, wired into lint:ci) so the staged spine retirement
provably converges: CI fails on any new ./core import. Register the new
generated agent-install-check.cjs in eslint-ignore + .gitignore +
INVENTORY-MANIFEST.json.

No behaviour change. First tranche (T0) of epic #1267.

51b23c248a fix(#1274): bump ws to ^8.21.0 to clear advisory GHSA-96hv-2xvq-fx4p (#1275)
The direct production dependency ws was pinned to 8.20.1, in the vulnerable
range of GHSA-96hv-2xvq-fx4p (high — memory-exhaustion DoS). The freshly
disclosed advisory turned the #3588 `npm audit --omit=dev reports zero
advisories` CI gate red repo-wide (next + every open PR). Bump to the
patched ^8.21.0 (backward-compatible). npm audit --omit=dev now reports 0.

6ef78fe417 feat(#1188): branch-coverage floors + promote no-source-grep to error on tests/** (#1250)
* feat(#1188): promote no-source-grep to error on tests/**

Apply local/no-source-grep as an error to tests/**/*.test.cjs (was warn on bin/scripts only). Only 2 real violations surfaced (repo-layout.test.cjs structural guard-placement checks on bin/install.js) — marked allow-test-rule with #1188 reason. PART A (branch-coverage floor) follows separately.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* feat(#1188): add c8 branch-coverage floors (60 global, 70 per-file on UNMUTATED modules)

c8 enforced line floors only. Add a --branches 60 global floor (current ~82.5%, margin mirrors the lines-70-vs-91% gap) to test:coverage + test:coverage:unit, plus a chained 'c8 check-coverage --per-file --branches 70' for the high-risk UNMUTATED modules state/phase/verify/init (current min 78.3% on verify). The per-file check reuses the coverage data the suite run just produced (the proven scripts-floor pattern) so it adds no second suite run.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix(#1188): per-module branch check must pin lines/funcs/stmts to 0

Standalone 'c8 check-coverage' defaults unspecified metrics to 90 and enforces them, so --branches 70 alone also failed on lines (verify.cjs 85.29% < default 90). Pin --lines 0 --functions 0 --statements 0 so only the branch floor (70) is enforced on the UNMUTATED modules. Data-reuse confirmed working (it computed verify's real %).

5fa4dcd78c fix: recover silently-excluded test dirs + test-architecture audit hardening (#1195)
* fix: recurse test discovery so subdir test suites actually run

scripts/run-tests.cjs discovered tests with a flat readdirSync(testDir),
silently excluding tests/observability/ (4 files), tests/dispatch/ (1) and
tests/installer-migrations/ (1) — 94 passing tests — from `npm test` and all
CI lanes. Walk the tree recursively (relative subpaths preserved), classify
suites by basename, and add a fail-on-zero-executed guard for suite/default
runs (escape hatch GSD_ALLOW_EMPTY_SUITE=1) while preserving the empty
--files/--files-from path the CI inert lane relies on.

Unit suite 735 -> 741 files; surfaces ADR-227's observability/dispatch seam.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* test: retire 5 verified-worthless tests

Adversarial verification confirmed these 5 prove nothing — their coverage is
provided more strictly elsewhere:
- enh-2790 'has a name: field' spot-checks (command-contract enforces /^gsd[:-]/)
- command-routing-hub duplicate construct + duplicate ERROR_KINDS assertions
- no-cjs-sdk-handsync-tooling (guarded files that never existed on main; bug-190
  covers the real retired SDK artifacts)
- runtime-artifact-layout cline edge case (subsumed by the explicit-global test
  and bug-782-cline-skills-emission)

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* test: add ADR-218 release version-validation coverage

ADR-218 (reject leading-zero versions like 1.01.0; npm duplicate pre-check) had
zero tests — the logic lived only in release.yml bash. Add a test that extracts
the actual rejection regexes from the workflow and exercises them against a
boundary table (leading-zero/malformed rejected, valid accepted) plus structural
wiring assertions. Goes red if the regex is reverted to [0-9]+.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* test: redesign weak tests into behavioral, deterministic assertions

Per the ADR test audit, rewrite 27 weak test files (test-only, no source
changes) so each can go red for the defect it guards:
- kill pass-always assert.ok(true) placeholders (research-cli, worktree-baseref,
  bug-260 security guard, eslint-rules x24, clusters '|| true')
- replace source-text grep with behavioral calls (install Kilo, sh-hook-paths,
  plan-review-convergence) and add a repo-layout governance test
- de-flake real-clock/Math.random coupling (phase last_updated, bug-3707 mtime,
  context-utilization property, feat-3594)
- fix independence/shared-state violations (bug-492 singleton, issue-844 tmpRoot,
  core reapStaleTempFiles, active-workstream TTY, feat-488 GSD_HOME)
- strengthen property/shape-only tests (research-provider/store classification +
  collision) and unconditional plugin.json schema validation (issue-766)

Verified: all 28 files run together 1220 pass / 0 fail / 1 skip.

* chore: add no-tautological-assert lint rule, error in test suite

New custom ESLint rule (eslint-rules/no-tautological-assert.cjs) bans asserts
that can never fail: assert(true)/assert.ok(<always-truthy literal>),
'cond || true' inside an assert, and equality asserts comparing two identical
literals. Wired as error on tests/**; full sweep confirmed zero existing
violations so the suite stays green. Prevents the placeholder-assert regressions
the audit redesigns just removed. RuleTester coverage added (6 valid, 8 invalid).

Note: no-only-tests was already enforced via eslint-plugin-no-only-tests, so no
duplicate rule was added.

* chore: gate new allow-test-rule exemptions to require an issue ref

ADR-456 requires any allow-test-rule exemption added after the ADR to carry a
tracking issue number, but nothing enforced it. New ratchet gate
(scripts/lint-allow-test-rule-refs.cjs, wired into lint:ci) fails when a NEW
allow-test-rule comment lacks a #NNN/URL reference; the 323 existing untracked
exemptions are grandfathered in an allowlist that ratchets down as they gain
refs. Red-green verified (novel untracked offender fails; compliant passes).

* docs: add ADR test-audit evidence report (#1192)

Full risk-first qa-test-architect audit of the ADR portfolio (37 ADRs + 4
platform lenses, adversarial verification of retire verdicts) that drove the
P0 discovery fix, ADR-218 coverage, 5 retires, 27 redesigns, and the two new
lint gates. Filed as point-in-time evidence under docs/issueevidence/, named
for tracking issue #1192.

* test: replace pre-existing raw NUL byte with escape in feat-3594 fixture

feat-3594's null-byte parser fixture contained a literal NUL byte (pre-existing
on next at b10e5681 — confirmed: base blob has 1 NUL, this fix has 0), which
made git treat the file as binary and would break grep/editors. Switch to the
\x00 escape; the runtime string value (a real NUL in the parser input) is
unchanged.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* test: address adversarial-review findings

Codex adversarial pass over the branch:
- capability-registry drift test no longer mutates the committed generated
  capability-registry.cjs in place (concurrency hazard) — uses in-memory
  checkPipeline comparison instead.
- allow-test-rule ratchet now detects exemptions in ALL comment forms (block
  /* */ too, matching no-source-grep) so a block comment can't bypass it;
  one newly-surfaced pre-existing offender grandfathered (323->324).
- install.test Kilo case asserts on what install(false,'kilo') actually writes
  rather than manually calling configureKiloPermissions (masked the call site).
- issue-766 drops the undeclared transitive ajv dep for explicit structural
  assertions from the schema fixture.
- adr-218 test notes the hotfix leading-zero gap is tracked in #1186.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* fix: address code-review findings (subdir discovery, rule + test gaps)

xhigh code review surfaced 15 confirmed issues, all fixed:
- run-tests.cjs --files now resolves subdir tests by bare basename + handles
  Windows backslash paths (ambiguous basenames error clearly).
- affected-tests-lib.cjs listTestFiles made recursive — the targeted CI lane was
  silently dropping changed subdir tests (same false-green class the audit fixed).
- no-tautological-assert now catches 'true || cond' and empty []/{} equality.
- verify-test-quality: restore provenance-classification coverage, tighten the
  writeFile circular-detection check, guard the module-level file read.
- sh-hook-paths: cover the global-install .sh delegation branch (#2045 guard).
- active-workstream null-guard runs deterministically (no longer skipped on TTY).
- adr-218 structural guards tightened (major/minor leading-zero; needs: membership).
- repo-layout AGENTS.md guard no longer false-alarms on equivalent refactors.
- cross-ai ordering guard fails red when the step is missing.
- issue-766 parses required fields from the schema fixture (auto-enforced).

* test: stub USERPROFILE alongside HOME in feat-488 (Windows parity)

The feat-488 redesign stubbed process.env.HOME but not USERPROFILE; os.homedir()

caught by windows-test-parity-guard (stubsHomeNoUserProfile). Save/set/restore
USERPROFILE symmetrically with HOME (delete-if-originally-undefined).

* chore: reconcile allow-test-rule allowlist after rebase onto next

Rebasing onto current next pulled in merged PR #1170, which added
inventory-headings-countfree.test.cjs (a baseline allow-test-rule exemption) and

the ratchet matches the merged tree. No new debt from this PR.

74d7bc8239 test(#1074): add additive per-file workflow size baseline guard (PR 1/3) (#1089)
* test(#1074): add additive per-file workflow size baseline guard (PR 1/3)

Introduces a committed per-file size baseline scheme alongside (not replacing)
the existing tier anti-creep tests. Green by construction — the baseline
records current sizes, so both schemes pass side by side during migration.

- scripts/lib/allowlist-ratchet.cjs: add assertFileBaseline (third pure helper,
  same injected-fail style) — per-file growth/shrink/add/remove diff vs baseline.
- scripts/workflow-size.cjs: single source of truth for LF-normalized byte
  counting (#683) + workflow enumeration, shared by the guard and the generator
  so they can never measure differently. Lives in scripts/ root (NOT scripts/lib/)
  because it is dev/CI-only tooling — scripts/lib/ is bundled into the installed
  runtime, scripts/ root is not, so this keeps it out of the shipped payload.
- scripts/update-size-baseline.cjs + npm run size:baseline: regenerate the
  snapshot (sorted keys, trailing newline, idempotent).
- tests/workflow-size-baseline.json: generated snapshot (88 workflows).
- tests/workflow-size-budget.test.cjs: import the shared counter (drops the
  duplicated local byteCount) and add the per-file baseline describe block.
- Tests for the helper, the shared module, and the generator (incl. round-trip
  and fault-injection cases).

Refs #1074. Part 1 of 3; PR 2 swaps enforcement, PR 3 covers the agent test.

* test(#1074): regenerate workflow baseline after Update-branch merge with next

The 'Update branch' merge (652a916b) pulled in next's update.md change (#1090)
without regenerating the snapshot, leaving the per-file baseline stale by one
file. Re-ran `npm run size:baseline` so the committed baseline matches the
merged workflow files.

837991d5a2 chore(#1087): Windows test-portability lint + n/no-path-concat + LF normalization (#1088)
* chore(#1087): add Windows test-portability lint + DEFECT.WINDOWS-TEST-PORTABILITY

Local gsd-test runs Mac+Linux only, so Windows-only test failures (Git Bash
msys2 not honoring Node's chmod exec bit for PATH-executing extension-less
scripts; `/` vs `\` path assertions) surface for the first time in CI's
windows lanes — repeatedly (most recently PR #1084's #381 fix).

Add scripts/lint-windows-test-portability.cjs: a high-signal, low-false-
positive tripwire that flags any tests/**/*.test.cjs combining a chmod exec
bit with a `sh -c`/`bash -c` invocation and no process.platform guard, unless
annotated `// windows-portability-ok: <reason>`. Wired into lint:ci and
runnable as `npm run lint:windows-test-portability`. Clean against all 721
current test files (zero pre-existing violations).

Document the broader anti-pattern as DEFECT.WINDOWS-TEST-PORTABILITY in
CONTEXT.md (.symptom/.examples/.detect/.fix-forward/.prevention): local
gsd-test cannot substitute for the CI windows lane — watch it green before
declaring a PR done.

tests/lint-windows-test-portability.test.cjs covers the scanContent matrix.

* chore(#1087): enable n/no-path-concat + add .gitattributes/.editorconfig (LF)

Two cross-platform "free wins" complementing the Windows test-portability lint:
- Enable eslint-plugin-n's n/no-path-concat (already-installed plugin) as
  'error' — flags string path concatenation (the / vs \ separator class).
  Zero existing violations, so it's a clean ratchet, not a refactor.
- Add .gitattributes (* text=auto eol=lf + binary exemptions) and .editorconfig
  (LF, UTF-8, final newline, trim whitespace) to normalize line endings and
  kill the CRLF-only-fails-on-Windows class at the source.

7c07fce70f fix(#381): make gsd_run launcher reachable in fresh-shell-per-block runtimes (#1084)
* fix(#381): make gsd_run launcher reachable in fresh-shell-per-block runtimes

On runtimes that execute each fenced bash block in a separate shell process
(e.g. Claude Code — documented behavior: each Bash command is a separate
process; inline shell functions and exported vars do not persist between
calls), the once-per-file gsd_run() function was undefined in every block
after the preamble block, and the call was swallowed by
`2>/dev/null || echo "{}"` into silent empty state.

Fix (budget-neutral session-level resolution):
- Ship gsd-core/bin/gsd_run, a POSIX sh wrapper that symlink-resolves its own
  location and execs the co-located gsd-tools.cjs. Exposed on PATH via the npm
  `bin` field (global installs) and shipped to local installs via the recursive
  gsd-core/ copy.
- The per-file launcher preamble now appends `export PATH='<bindir>':"$PATH"`
  to the file named by $CLAUDE_ENV_FILE (Claude Code's documented
  env-persistence mechanism) so later fresh-shell blocks resolve gsd_run from
  PATH. Guarded as a strict no-op when CLAUDE_ENV_FILE is unset; the inline
  gsd_run() definition remains the fallback for all other runtimes. The
  single-quoted dir neutralizes shell metacharacters at source time.
- Propagated via scripts/sync-runtime-launcher.cjs to all launcher-using files.
- XL workflow byte budget 93000 -> 93200 (the ~130B clause pushes plan-phase.md
  to 93135; legitimate content growth, ratchet-up per #717).

Regression tests (I)/(J) in runtime-launcher-parity.test.cjs cover wrapper
delegation and end-to-end PATH persistence (sourcing the env file with a
space-bearing install path).

Known limitation: an install path containing a literal single-quote yields a
malformed env-file line and falls back to the status quo (no regression);
rare on sanitized home directories.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com>

* test(#381): scope test (J) bare-PATH execution to POSIX (Windows Git Bash exec bit)

Windows Git Bash (msys2) does not honor Node's chmod exec bit for
PATH-executing extension-less scripts, so the bare `gsd_run` command lookup
failed there even though the env-file PATH persistence was correct. The
env-file content assertions (the fix's actual cross-platform logic) still run
on every platform; only the final source-and-execute sub-step is gated to
non-win32. Global installs on Windows are covered by npm's generated bin shim.

48cc27bd84 feat(#903): generate Loop Host Contract from workflow markers (ADR-857 phase 3a-impl-2) (#906)
Replace the inline LOOP_HOST_CONTRACT constant in the Capability Registry
generator with a generated-from-workflows contract (ADR-894 §3). The contract
is now derived from inert `<!-- gsd:loop-host ... -->` marker blocks in the five
step workflows, emitted as the committed gsd-core/bin/lib/loop-host-contract.cjs,
and required by gen-capability-registry.cjs — one source of truth, no drift.

Drift guards in gen-loop-host-contract.cjs: per-step point ownership (each step
must declare exactly its canonical loop points), multiple-block + duplicate-key
hard errors, and a word-boundary agent-role cross-check. Contract content is
byte-identical to the former constant; registry-only, nothing wired into the
live loop.

* feat(#896): Capability Registry generator + UI pilot (ADR-857 phase 3a-impl)

First phase-3 code: the Capability Registry generation pipeline, built against
the ADR-894 contract and NOT wired into the live loop (registry-only, per the
staged-cutover design).

- capabilities/ui/capability.json — the UI pilot (ADR-894 worked example): 2
  skills, 2 agents, 3 config keys, 2 steps + 1 gate, with `when` activation.
- scripts/gen-capability-registry.cjs — --write/--check generator. Hand-rolled
  schema validation (envelope + role-typed feature/runtime bodies + typed
  steps/contributions/gates + when + gate-check variants); cross-capability
  invariants (single ownership; requires exist+acyclic+tier-monotone; config-key
  ownership exclusive, collision-vs-central as a pending-migration warning);
  hooks validated against an inline LOOP_HOST_CONTRACT (3a-impl-2 swaps its
  source to the generated-from-workflows contract); GLOBAL point-ordered
  consumes-satisfiability; materialized byLoopPoint ordering (produces/consumes
  topo-sort); emits gsd-core/bin/lib/capability-registry.cjs (role-partitioned
  indexes + requiresClosure). Prototype-pollution guards (Object.create(null) +
  inline literal key checks) + fragment.path traversal guard.
- gsd-core/bin/lib/capability-registry.cjs — committed generated artifact
  (mirrors package-identity.cjs: script-generated, tracked, linted, regenerated
  on build, drift-tested), wired via the new `gen:capability-registry` build step.
- tests/capability-registry.test.cjs — 72 tests: schema + invariant + hook +
  ordering + adversarial (path-traversal, proto-pollution, runtime body,
  self-consume, cycles, collisions) + committed-file staleness guard.

New-CLI-module checklist (INVENTORY 97->98, MANIFEST, ARCHITECTURE), CONTEXT.md
"Capability Registry" un-[Planned]'d. Nothing wired into install/surface/loop.

Gates: lint, code-review (4 bugs fixed), security-review (path-traversal +
prototype-pollution fixed), codex adversarial-review ×3 (8+ findings fixed,
confirmed sound), clean-build docker 13190 pass / 0 fail.

* fix(#896): CRLF-agnostic --check for capability-registry staleness (Windows)

The committed capability-registry.cjs staleness guard failed on Windows CI only:
git checks out the committed .cjs as CRLF (autocrlf, no .gitattributes) while the
generator emits LF, so the byte-for-byte --check comparison mismatched. Normalize
line endings on both sides of the --check comparison (no .gitattributes change,
no change to the LF the generator writes). Adds a regression test simulating the
Windows CRLF checkout.

543e51e71f fix(#844): sync runtime manifest versions on npm version bump (#845)
* fix(#844): sync runtime manifest versions on npm version bump

The release workflow bumps package.json via `npm version` but never
stamped the runtime-integration manifests that must track it
(.claude-plugin/plugin.json #766, gemini-extension.json #775), so the
first RC/finalize whose version diverged from the -dev stream failed the
test suite before tagging/publishing.

Add scripts/sync-manifest-versions.cjs (single VERSIONED_MANIFESTS
registry) wired to a `version` npm lifecycle hook that stamps + stages
the manifests on every `npm version` — covering all four release bump
sites and local bumps with no workflow edits. A regression guard test
fails if any repo JSON whose version matches package.json is not
registered, forcing future version-bearing manifests into the sync.

a3aa0ae142 feat(#775): ship a gemini-extension.json extension package (#818)
Add a Gemini CLI extension package so users can install, update, and
remove GSD through Gemini's own extension lifecycle and have it appear in
`gemini extensions list`:

  gemini extensions install https://github.com/open-gsd/gsd-core
  gemini extensions update gsd-core
  gemini extensions uninstall gsd-core
  gemini extensions link /path/to/gsd-core # dev

This mirrors the additive Claude Code plugin manifest (#766): a thin,
version-stamped manifest enforced by an in-repo drift test. The extension
ships the context-file payload (GEMINI.md), loaded into every Gemini
session; slash-command/agent/hook TOML projection into the extension is a
documented follow-up. The manual `npx gsd-core --gemini` installer (which
provides the /gsd:* commands) is unchanged — purely additive, no breaking
change.

- gemini-extension.json: name=binName, version tracks package.json,
  description, contextFileName=GEMINI.md (minimal; no mcpServers — gsd
  ships no MCP server)
- GEMINI.md: Gemini-session context payload
- package.json: add both artifacts to files[] so they publish
- CONTEXT.md: add "Gemini Extension Package" glossary entry
- docs: USER-GUIDE + install-on-your-runtime how-to
- tests/issue-775-gemini-extension.test.cjs: manifest validity, version
  parity with package.json, contextFileName existence, files[] publication

f66c4a082c feat(#766): distribute gsd-core as a native Claude Code plugin (#797)
* feat(#766): distribute gsd-core as a native Claude Code plugin

Add an additive .claude-plugin/plugin.json manifest plus hooks/hooks.json so gsd-core can be installed as a first-class Claude Code plugin (marketplace or zero-friction @skills-dir), with /gsd-core: namespaced commands and lifecycle management — alongside the unchanged npm/file-copy installer.

- .claude-plugin/plugin.json: validated with 'claude plugin validate --strict'
- hooks/hooks.json: mirrors the installer's always-on Claude hook wiring via ${CLAUDE_PLUGIN_ROOT}
- package.json: ship .claude-plugin in the npm tarball
- tests/issue-766-plugin-manifest.test.cjs: manifest + always-on-hook-contract drift guards
- docs: install-on-your-runtime.md + FEATURES.md

* docs(#766): add ADR-766 + glossary entry for Claude Code Plugin Manifest Module

Record the plugin manifest as the Seam projecting gsd-core's artifact surfaces onto the Claude Code plugin contract (sibling of the Runtime Artifact Layout Module, ADR-3660), with the defined kind->field mapping and the always-on hook projection rule.

7ebff4058e chore(#660): bump next to 1.3.1-dev.0 (-dev stream per ADR 660) (#672)
After the 1.3.0 release, next moves onto the -dev prerelease stream so the
trunk self-identifies as unreleased (floor = next patch). First manual
exercise of the ADR-660 release model.

b238baddbf fix(#663): resolve open CodeQL/Dependabot security alerts (ReDoS, prototype pollution, workflow perms, qs DoS) (#665)
* fix(#663): resolve open CodeQL/Dependabot security alerts

- ReDoS: collapse ambiguous nested quantifiers in phase-heading regexes
  (verify/validate/commands) and the plan-filename lookahead (phase) to
  provably-equivalent non-backtracking forms
- prototype pollution: guard __proto__/constructor/prototype in setConfigValue
- remove dead no-op .replace(/-/g,'-') in phase.cts
- escape all regex metachars in bug-2839 test
- add contents:read permissions to security-scan + install-smoke workflows
- pin qs >= 6.15.2 via overrides (DoS GHSA)
- broaden prompt-injection allowlist to translated security-model docs

Closes #663

* test(#663): regression tests for prototype-pollution guard and roadmap-phase ReDoS

Behavioral test that config-set rejects __proto__/constructor/prototype keys
without polluting Object.prototype, plus a ReDoS guard (timing-bound) and
behavior-preservation assertions for the collapsed phase-heading regexes.

* test(#663): make ReDoS regression assert structured result, not elapsed time

Replace elapsed-time assertions (which tripped local/no-elapsed-assertion
ESLint rule and were unsound for synchronous ReDoS) with structured-result
assertions on adversarial inputs: assert that malformed phase headings/
unchecked-item lines without a terminating colon/space yield an empty Set,
which is both the correct behavior and an exercise of the fixed linear regex
on the catastrophic-backtracking input shape.

* chore(#663): add Security changeset fragment for #665

* test(#663): fold prototype-pollution regression into config.test.cjs

The standalone bug-663-config-prototype-pollution.test.cjs was a 9th
config-module test file, tripping lint-test-file-count (the allowlist is
ratcheted and must not grow). Consolidated into config.test.cjs instead.

6bd7ceb256 chore(#653): set npm package author to OpenGSD (#654)
The package author was still the legacy personal credit "TÂCHES", which npm
renders on the package page (issue #653). Set it to the org name OpenGSD,
matching the @opengsd scope / open-gsd org. The installer banner's "by TÂCHES"
was already removed in the #523 rebrand; this clears the last in-repo reference.
