enhance(#3464): exec() detection widening, citation-debt cleanup — Phase 8 (#4171)
* feat(#3464): widen no-source-grep to detect regex.exec() on tracked text Adds an execCall kind alongside the existing regexTest detection -- regex.exec(tracked) was invisible to the rule while regex.test(tracked) was already caught, despite both reading a source-derived string through a regex. Measured: 4 previously-invisible sites across 2 files. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(#3464): migrate 4 sites newly flagged by the exec() widening docs-hooks-table-parity.test.cjs's three regex-extraction loops are site-scoped marked (source-text-is-the-product) -- the dynamic preToolEvent/postToolEvent dialect branching they mirror is explicitly documented as not statically parseable, so a literal-pattern mirror is the practical minimum-cost check. no-bare-gsd-tools-command-position.test.cjs's readRouterVerbs() now requires HOST_COMMAND_ROUTERS directly instead of regex-walking gsd-tools.cjs's source text -- the same accessor three other suites already use. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#3464): pay down 6 grandfathered uncited allow-test-rule markers Two were genuinely load-bearing (suppressing a real detected violation) and just needed a citation added -- phase6-capstone-conformance.test.cjs, runtime-name-policy.test.cjs, both now (#3464). Four were dead-weight file-header markers suppressing nothing -- each file's real effective sites are covered by separate, already-cited markers elsewhere in the same file. Deleted outright rather than cited, per Phase 1's own precedent (remove non-load-bearing markers instead of grandfathering them forever) -- codex-config.test.cjs (two copies), gsd-check-update-worker-platform-gate.test.cjs, orphaned-hooks.test.cjs, settings-jsonc.test.cjs. allowlist.json: 134 -> 128 entries. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * chore(#3464): re-baseline effective-exemption ceiling to 84 The exec() widening's 3 newly-marked sites are now suppressed and counted; ceiling rises 81 -> 84, the exact measured high-water mark. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#3464): correct citation and restore a wrongly-deleted marker Two review corrections, both found by the orthogonal review pass: - docs-hooks-table-parity.test.cjs's 3 new exec() markers cited #3464 (mechanically "the phase that widened the rule") when the file's own established, correct reference is #3839 (the issue this whole test exists to enforce, already cited in its file header) -- fixed to match. - gsd-check-update-worker-platform-gate.test.cjs's deleted file-header marker was NOT dead weight: its codeOnly() helper wraps readFileSync and is called inline as an assert argument, a genuine source-grep pattern on real .cjs/.js source that the rule cannot currently see (helper-function indirection is a distinct blind spot from anything Phase 7/8 measured) -- CONTRIBUTING.md is explicit that "unverified" is not the same as "vestigial." Restored, site-scoped this time (directly above codeOnly(), not as an inert file-header comment) and cited (#3103, the issue the file's own docstring already references). codex-config.test.cjs's two deletions and orphaned-hooks.test.cjs's / settings-jsonc.test.cjs's deletions were independently re-verified and stand: their flagged lines read generated .toml/.json OUTPUT, not source, or have no residual pattern at all. enhance(#3545): widen no-source-grep with fold+hooks, migrate 76 sites (#4161)
* feat(#3545): widen no-source-grep with one-hop path-fold and hooks dir Resolve a readFileSync() path argument that is a bare Identifier one hop back to its VariableDeclarator initializer before classification, and recognize `hooks` as a source directory alongside bin/lib/gsd-core/src. Measured (epic #3464 phase 7): fold+hooks together newly flag 76 unsuppressed sites across 18 files that were previously invisible to identifier-indirected or hooks/-rooted source reads. Neither widening alone is sufficient — hooks-only surfaces 0 new sites, confirming #3520's prior finding that the identifier-indirection gap must close first. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(#3545): migrate 76 sites newly flagged by the fold+hooks widening Per-site classification: rewrite behaviorally (require() the real module, assert on its actual exported behavior) wherever the read was a proxy for code behavior; add a site-scoped `// allow-test-rule: <reason> (#3545)` marker only where the raw source text genuinely is the product under test (codex-config.test.cjs's adapter-header-contract checks, install.js structural-wiring guards with no exported symbol, AST-parse fixture inputs, etc.) — each marker cites an existing repo-sanctioned category from CONTRIBUTING.md's allow-test-rule exception table. Also converts two try/finally test bodies (introduced during this same migration) to the required t.after() cleanup pattern per CONTRIBUTING.md. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * chore(#3545): re-baseline effective-exemption ceiling to 81 The fold+hooks widening's own newly-detected sites are now suppressed by site-scoped markers, moving them from invisible into the tightly-ratcheted effective-exemption count. Ceiling rises from 10 to 81 (the exact measured high-water mark, grace unchanged at 2) — a deliberate, measured re-baseline per the widening working as intended, not an ordinary ceiling bump. Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#3545): use canonical allow-test-rule category tokens 4 markers added during migration cited an issue ref correctly but didn't use one of CONTRIBUTING.md's seven recognized category tokens, unlike every other marker in this change. Cosmetic only — same suppression lines, same effective/live counts (81/81, 0 live). Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#3545): correct stale phase-artifact path in test comment Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> --------- Co-authored-by: sim <sim@local> Co-authored-by: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

enhance(#3951): B6+B7 — widen two unreachable lint rules and make the guard ledger true (#3965)
* fix(#3951): two lint rules that could not reach the code they govern B6 names two widenings. Measuring them first turned up a defect the criterion did not know about, and refuted the reason it gave for one of them. 1. no-adhoc-markdown-parsing self-gates on its own filename. Lines 107-110 short-circuit create() to {} unless the path matches /(?:^|\/)src\/[^/]+\.cts$/. B6 says to widen the files: glob in eslint.config.mjs - but doing only that ships an INERT rule, because the gate still returns {} for every new path. Both halves have to change, and the gate is the load-bearing one. That same regex hides a live hole: [^/]+ is FLAT-ONLY, so it requires the file to sit directly in src/. The registered glob is src/**/*.cts, which includes subdirectories. 28 .cts files - health-diagnostic-rules/ (10), installer-migrations/ (11), observability/ (3), host-integration-adapters/ (2), vendor/ (2) - are inside the registered glob and silently skipped. Measured with the gate neutralized: 0 violations there today. The hole is hiding nothing right now, and is fixed anyway, because "no violations today" is not a property that keeps holding. The fix is not invented: require-subprocess-timeout.cjs:196 already carries the correct form of this guard, /(?:^|\/)src\/.*\.cts$/ with .*, one directory over. Checked the other 21 rules for the same bug - no-adhoc-regex-escape and no-private-binary-resolution short-circuit only to exempt their own seam file, which is the right shape, and no-crlf-fragile-split has no filename gate at all. This bug is unique to the one rule. 2. no-adhoc-regex-escape could not see the shape that actually occurs. Line 396 gated the whole UNSAFE-NEW-REGEXP arm on arg.type === 'Identifier'. Every check below it - the _SOURCE provenance check, the isSoleReturnOfOwnParameter shape - lives inside that branch, so new RegExp(obj['key']) and new RegExp(cfg.pattern) were never examined at all. Runtime data arrives as a property access far more often than as a bare identifier, which is exactly why this rule never fired on the #3477 ReDoS. Widened to MemberExpression, measured by AST walk across all five registered blocks rather than by grep. 27 sites, zero TSAsExpression: 18 safe new RegExp(X.source, flags) -> exempted, keyed strictly on the PROPERTY being `source`, never on the object. Keying on the object would wave through X.anything and buy nothing. B6 estimated ~10; that was an undercount. 3 _SOURCE-suffixed constants reached through a required module namespace (phaseId.BRACKET_PHASE_TOKEN_SOURCE) -> the same provenance-exempt class the rule already recognizes for bare identifiers, extended to reach them. Without this the widening produces 3 false flags. 6 real findings -> marked, each a test extracting a pattern from a shipped file at test time, where the runtime contract IS the product. Deliberately the NARROW MemberExpression form. The rule's own isSoleReturnOfOwnParameter doc comment records that an earlier broad "any non-literal identifier" heuristic produced ~25 false positives and was rejected; a re-run of the census after this change flags exactly the 6 above and nothing else. Verified by execution, not by reading: the gate now accepts src/<subdir>/x.cts, still accepts flat src/x.cts, and still exempts paths outside src/ - each pinned by a test proven to fail against the old regex. build:lib, lint and lint:ci all exit 0. Refs #3951 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#3951): give no-adhoc-markdown-parsing its reach, and fix the 80 parses it finds The rule self-gates on filename AND is registered on one glob, so widening either half alone is inert. Both move here: the gate now accepts tests/**/*.cjs and scripts/**/*.cjs alongside src/**/*.cts, and eslint.config.mjs registers it on the same two. A test pins that the gate and the registration AGREE, in both directions. The original defect was a gate narrower than its registration; the failure mode of this fix is a gate wider than its registration. Both are silent, so the test asserts the pair rather than either half. 80 violations across 43 files, all in tests/, zero in scripts/. 70 are routed through the existing seams - scanFencedBlocks, collectSection, stripFencedCode, tokenizeHeadings from markdown-sectionizer; splitTableRow, parseMarkdownTable, findTableWithColumns from markdown-table. Headerless STATE.md tables use splitTableRow per line, because parseMarkdownTable needs a real delimiter row. 10 are suppressed, 12.5%, well under the third that would have meant the rule is mis-scoped for tests/ rather than the tests carrying debt. Each names its reason: three regression guards (#3873 / bug-#21) are deliberately independent of the generator's own fence handling, and routing them through the seam would have them test the generator against itself; one is a negative-text probe that extracts nothing; six are a shell-pipe-to-jq detector whose regex coincidentally matches the table fingerprint and is not markdown parsing at all. All ten sit in tests whose subject is .md content, which is normally a reason to prefer the seam. The marker used is allow-adhoc-markdown, distinct from no-source-grep's allow-test-rule, and lint:ci's lint-allow-test-rule-refs reports the same 280/280 unverified count as before - checked rather than assumed, because those two markers are easy to conflate. The widening earned its keep immediately: it found a test that passed for the wrong reason. tests/config-field-docs.test.cjs asserted notEqual(<cell>, '600') against the TYPE column instead of the DEFAULT column. notEqual('number', '600') is true forever, so the guard against workflow.subagent_timeout regressing to the old seconds default could never fire. docs/CONFIGURATION.md:434 is `| workflow.subagent_timeout | number | 300000 | ... |`, so the default is cell index 2; the assertion is now row-scoped through splitTableRow and reads 300000. That is the argument for the widening in one case: the violation was invisible to lint, the suite was green, and the assertion was vacuous. A rule that cannot reach a file cannot tell you the file is lying. Not fixed here, and recorded rather than assumed: #3426/#3239 are NOT reachable by this widening. tests/package-legitimacy-gate.test.cjs yields zero violations even with the gate bypassed - its hand-rolled scans are real, but built from line filters and split('|') rather than the regex-literal fingerprints this rule detects. They need new detectors. The epic assumed a wider glob would catch them. build:lib, lint and lint:ci all exit 0; the post-fix census across tests/** and scripts/** is 0 violations. Refs #3951 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#3951): B7 — and #3356's defects were still live in the code B7 asks that each closed child be driven fail-first with a behavioral identity test at the CONSUMER's output. Four of eleven children had no test citing their issue number. Auditing them by BEHAVIOR rather than by number-grep changed the answer for three of the four. #3364 and #2540 — traceability only. Both were implemented by #3941 and their consumer-output tests exist and were shown failing-first; neither cited its originating issue, so an audit that greps for the number reports them uncovered. Tagged the specific asserting test in each file, following the citation form those files already use. #3372 — covered, but only at helper level, and the triage narrowed it. Of the four commands the issue names, only estimate-cli's collectCalibrationSamples actually enumerates phase dirs from disk; smart-entry, audit and roadmap-upgrade derive from ROADMAP/body text and never reach the sentinel path, so they are benign by construction and were left alone rather than "fixed" into churn. The existing #3882 rows asserted the helper's return value. Added a consumer-output test driving `query estimate-calibrate` and asserting sample_count and the persisted document. RED proof: reverted collectCalibrationSamples to a raw readdirSync and ran the real CLI - sample_count 3, sentinel leaked; restored - sample_count 2. #3356 — NOT covered, and BOTH halves of the defect were still live in source. The issue is closed; the bug was not fixed. Fixed here rather than writing tests that document a bug as correct. Defect 1, the contradicted row. quick.md:627 claimed `quick-tasks-append` performs "the equivalent write" to the Step 7c row. It did not: the `#` cell was a positional ordinal and `Directory` read `—`, because the route had no way to receive a quick id or task directory. Added OPTIONAL `--quick-id` / `--slug` / `--directory`. A caller with neither - fast.md, the original #2133 caller - omits them and gets the byte-identical prior row, so nothing existing changes. A caller that HAS a real id and directory now gets the canonical row quick.md:632 renders. The false-equivalence sentence itself is corrected rather than left to mislead the next reader. Defect 2, the forced re-derive. The route called readModifyWriteStateMd with no options, so a body-only append to the Quick Tasks table triggered a full re-derive of the disk-derived progress.* frontmatter. Every other body-only writer passes { resync: false } - src/state.cts's own docstring prescribes it - and this route was the lone outlier. RED proof: reverted the option, seeded a project with 2 real phase dirs and a curated total_phases of 25, ran quick-tasks-append; total_phases collapsed to 2. Restored; it stayed 25. That second one is the shape this epic exists to close: a silent write that replaces curated state with a re-derivation nobody asked for, exit 0 throughout. build:lib, lint and lint:ci all exit 0. Refs #3951 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * docs(#3951): amend B6's ledger to what was measured, and document the new flags The ADR gains a ledger amendment in its own correction style - the sixth wrong premise it records, found the same way as the other five, by measuring before building. B6 says the net guard count must fall. It rose: 62 -> 69, +7, measured from the epic's filing commit to origin/next. The attribution is the point, though. Five of the seven came from PRs unrelated to this epic, one was added by a phase of it, and the epic did retire something sub-file - #3884 removed a detector with an explicit "net: -1 detector, 0 added" ledger. Every named casualty is load-bearing, two already carry retractions in this same document, and a sweep of all 22 rules plus every scripts/lint-* found no provably dead guard. There is no honest way to make the count fall; forcing it would trade coverage for a number, which is the Goodhart outcome Decision 6 exists to prevent. The amendment also records that B6's own prescribed fix for one widening was inert. no-adhoc-markdown-parsing self-gates on its filename, so widening only the files: glob - which is what the criterion says to do - ships a rule that still returns {} for every new path. And #3426/#3239 are not reachable by that widening at all; their scans use line filters and split('|'), not the regex fingerprints the rule detects. The roster row tracked them against the wrong mechanism. Three roster rows updated from aspiration to fact: the two widenings are DONE with their measured counts, and lint-phase-enumeration-drift is marked RETAINED rather than "expected casualty - verify before retiring", because Phase 5 verified it and kept it. The rule Decision 6 should carry forward is stated plainly: a guard ledger is a claim about COVERAGE, not about COUNT. "Net count must fall" is measurable and wrong. "Every guard is reachable, and each retirement names what makes its defect unrepresentable" is the property that was actually wanted. CLI-TOOLS.md documents the optional --quick-id/--slug/--directory flags and says plainly that omitting them keeps the pre-#3356 row byte-identical, plus that the append no longer re-derives progress frontmatter. New features fragment (id 3951); FEATURES.md regenerated rather than hand-edited. Changeset is Changed, pr:0 pending backfill. Refs #3951 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(#3951): correct four rows that pinned the lint rule's old narrow reach The remote suite came back RED with 5 failures, all in tests/eslint-rules.test.cjs. They are stale tests, not a regression: four rows assert that no-adhoc-markdown-parsing is inert outside src/*.cts, which is exactly the contract this deliverable changes. Confirmed by reading rather than inferred from the names - the row at :1981 used filename: 'tests/some.test.cjs' and filename: 'scripts/helper.cjs', the two roots the rule now covers on purpose. Worth recording WHY local gates missed this. npm run lint and lint:ci were green, and the touched test files passed standalone. Lint only reports violations in real files; these rows assert the rule's REACH using synthetic RuleTester filenames, so nothing but the full suite could see them. Local green on a rule change says nothing about the rule's own tests. Each row is rewritten with BOTH halves rather than flipped from valid to invalid: - the same fingerprint under tests/ or scripts/ is now flagged, with the right messageId - the negative space is preserved - the same fingerprint under a path outside all three roots (gsd-core/bin/lib/foo.cjs) is still NOT flagged The second half is the one that matters. Without it the rule has no boundary and nothing would catch an over-wide gate later, which is the mirror image of the bug this deliverable just fixed. Each row is renamed to state the current contract; the old names said "non-src/*.cts ... is not flagged" and would have been actively misleading once the bodies changed. Proven to test the widening rather than restate it: every flagged half was run against HEAD~2's pre-widening rule and does NOT fire there, then against the current rule and does. 12/12 on that probe; the full file is 178/178. Swept for the same staleness elsewhere and found none. require-subprocess-timeout's own "inert outside src/*.cts" row is untouched - that rule's gate was not widened here - and no-adhoc-regex-escape's test file already carries correctly-targeted rows. Refs #3951 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(#3951): acknowledge the quick.md growth the attribution guard reported The full suite came back RED with one failure, and it is mine: 1 file(s) grew without an acknowledgment: quick.md grew 364 bytes gsd-core/workflows/quick.md is runtime-loaded emitted content, so correcting its false 'performs the equivalent write' claim trips emitted-attribution by construction. This is the acknowledgment, not a workaround - there is nothing to regenerate. The fragment names ONE path, which is the only one the guard reported. The four spent acknowledgments it also listed (audit-uat, plan-phase, progress, review) belong to other fragments whose ripple the base already absorbs; they are inert, not failures, and are deliberately NOT copied here - naming paths I did not change would make this record false in the other direction. Byte figure corrected before committing: the guard reported 37220 -> 37584 (+364), but origin/next has since moved and quick.md is 37232 there now, so the measured delta is +352. The reason text says so and names the base as a moving figure rather than pinning a number that is already stale. Refs #3951 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(#3951): move the quick.md growth ack to a trailer, delete the obsolete fragment The acknowledgment mechanism changed under this branch. Merging next brought in the redesign - it also deleted .github/workflows/ack-fragment-sweep.yml, which was in the merge status and which I did not register at the time - and the guard now says so directly: Add a trailer to a commit in this PR (never a new file). Emitted-Drift-Ack-Growth: quick.md - <why this growth is deliberate> So tests/emitted-drift-acks/3951-quick-append-equivalence.json is obsolete on arrival. A fragment file is no longer read by anything, and leaving it would be a dead record that looks like an active one. It is deleted here rather than kept "just in case". The byte figure moved again with the merge: 37232 -> 37596, +364. The earlier fragment said +352, measured before the merge auto-merged quick.md itself. The trailer carries no number, which is the better design - the figure was stale twice in two attempts. Refs #3951 Emitted-Drift-Ack-Growth: quick.md — #3356/#3951 replaces a false claim with an accurate one. Line 627 said the `quick-tasks-append` shortcut "performs the equivalent write" to the Step 7c row rendered above it; it did not, and that was the documented half of #3356 — with no quick id or task directory the route emitted a positional ordinal in `#` and an em-dash in `Directory`, a visibly different row. The corrected sentence has to carry three facts the original elided: what the shortcut actually writes when it has neither input, that this is honest behavior for its real caller (`fast.md`, which has neither), and how a caller with both now gets the byte-identical canonical row via the new optional `--quick-id`/`--slug`/`--directory` flags. Prose is the product here — an executing agent reads this line to decide whether the shortcut is safe for its case, and a shorter correction would either drop the flags (leaving the reader unable to act on the fix) or drop the limitation (recreating the false claim in gentler words). fix(3582): stop the cold-tree guard from racing the builders it guards against (#3665)
The guard added in #3656 asserts that this test leaves the real repo hooks/ directory alone. It compared a RAW listing before and after — and just failed on the runner: the real repo hooks/ directory listing must be unchanged by this test - '.dist-staging-20858', 'dist', ... Nothing was wrong with the test's own behaviour. A CONCURRENT scripts/build-hooks.js — nine test files invoke it from before() hooks — created hooks/.dist-staging-20858 inside the comparison window. The assertion assumed the shared hooks/ directory is stable for the duration of a test, which is precisely the assumption this line of work exists to disprove. The race-detector raced. The intent is right and is kept: this test must not add or remove anything in the repo. Only the comparison changes — both snapshots are now filtered through shouldCopyHookEntry, the same rule the fixture itself uses, so transient build scratch that is not this test's doing and is excluded from the fixture anyway no longer registers as a difference. Proven by execution: with a .dist-staging dir injected mid-window the filtered listings compare equal, while the unfiltered listings provably differ by exactly that entry — so the old comparison would have failed and the new one is immune rather than merely quieter. The injected directory is removed afterwards and hooks/ is confirmed byte-identical. Checked for the same shape elsewhere: this is the only raw listing comparison of the live hooks/ directory in the file or the repo. The second title in the failure output is the describe() wrapper around this same test, not a sibling. Refs #3582 Co-authored-by: sim <sim@local> |

fix(#3582): stop the cold-tree fixture racing concurrent hook builds (#3656)
* fix(3582): stop the cold-tree fixture racing concurrent hook builds Two tests in tests/gsd-check-update-worker-platform-gate.test.cjs failed a verification run with `ENOENT: no such file or directory, lstat '/work/hooks/.dist-staging-20836'`. This is a race I introduced in #3582, not a flake, and it passed when #3582 merged because it only fires when the timing lines up. buildColdInstallTree() copied the LIVE repo hooks/ directory with a filter that excluded only the basename 'dist'. scripts/build-hooks.js writes atomically through a per-PID staging dir, hooks/.dist-staging-<pid>, and removes it when finished — and the archived build-hooks-atomic-write changeset records that NINE test files invoke build-hooks.js from their before() hooks. So several test processes create and delete staging directories inside hooks/ while other tests are reading it. cpSync enumerated one, and the owning process removed it before cpSync got to it. The helper's own header already states the rule it needed: hooks/dist is excluded because it "is not present in a raw marketplace checkout either". hooks/.dist-staging-* is gitignored (.gitignore:21) and equally absent from a raw checkout — it was simply missed. Fixed by enumerating hooks/ explicitly and skipping 'dist' and any '.dist-staging' prefix BY NAME, before anything stats or copies the entry, then copying each surviving entry individually. A name-first skip means a vanishing staging dir is never touched at all. Worth recording because it corrects the assumption this fix was written under: cpSync's filter IS invoked before the entry is lstat'd, and returning false leaves it untouched (verified by deleting inside the callback and returning false — no throw). So merely adding '.dist-staging' to the old filter would also have closed the race. The explicit enumeration was kept anyway so correctness does not depend on that Node implementation detail. Proven by execution both ways: with a staging dir planted in hooks/, the OLD cpSync-with-filter form copied it straight through into the fixture, while the new form succeeds and produces no .dist-staging entry with the real hook set intact. Regression test added beside the existing cold-tree tests: it plants a real hooks/.dist-staging-test-<random>, asserts the fixture builds clean without it, and removes only the directory it created. Repo swept for the same exposure: this helper is the only place doing a bulk enumeration of the whole live hooks/ tree. The other hooks/-touching tests reference specific named files or hooks/dist/ and are not exposed. scripts/build-hooks.js is deliberately untouched — its per-PID staging is what makes its own writes atomic and is correct. Refs #3582 * fix(3582): make the race regression test hermetic instead of mutating the live tree The regression test added in the previous commit failed the runner with "failed running after hook", and it was wrong in two ways — the second one worse than the first. cleanup() (tests/helpers.cjs:452-487) deliberately THROWS for any path outside the known temp roots. The test planted hooks/.dist-staging-test-<random> inside the repo and then asked cleanup() to remove it, so the after-hook threw. That guard is correct and is left alone. The real problem is that the test mutated the LIVE hooks/ directory while other test files concurrently read it — the exact shared-state hazard this change exists to remove. A regression test for a race must not introduce one. buildColdInstallTree now takes an optional opts.repoRoot (defaulting to the real REPO_ROOT and used for both copies it performs), so the test builds a fake repo root under the temp dir, plants representative hooks plus dist/ and .dist-staging-99999/ THERE, and asserts the fixture excludes both. All six pre-existing callers pass no arguments and are unaffected. The test also asserts the real hooks/ listing is identical before and after, so a future edit that reintroduces live-tree mutation fails loudly. The name rule is now pinned directly rather than only through the copy. shouldCopyHookEntry is exported and asserted, including the two cases a sloppier implementation would get wrong: 'dist-staging-no-dot' and 'distant.js' must both be KEPT. Anything matching on a loose 'dist' substring or startsWith passes every other case and fails those two. Also corrected the issue number on the tests introduced here: they were labelled #3631, which is the unrelated capability-consent bytecode work. This is #3582. Verified by execution: the predicate rule holds on all nine cases; a fake-root fixture yields exactly the representative hooks with dist and .dist-staging excluded; the no-arg default still copies the real tree (29 entries); and the real hooks/ listing is byte-identical before and after. Refs #3582 * chore(3582): re-trigger CI after an orphaned Validate Branch Name run The Validate Branch Name run for this branch (32211622051) sat queued from 03:17 and was never picked up — updatedAt never advanced past createdAt while the same workflow completed normally for other branches. `gh run rerun` refused it ("already running") and `gh run cancel` returned HTTP 500, so the run is orphaned on the GitHub side. Closing and reopening the PR re-fired the other pull_request workflows but not that one, whose triggers evidently do not include reopened. An empty commit is the remaining way to get a fresh run. No file changes: the tree is identical to dc71534b6, whose remote-runner pass carries forward unchanged. Recording this rather than admin-merging past the pending check. Everything else was green (24 pass, 0 fail), but admin merge is sanctioned only for the missing-secondary-reviewer case, never to skip a gate that has not actually run. fix(#3582): route every hook's compiled-module require through the self-heal build seam (#3629)
* test(3582): failing-first cold-tree coverage and the seam drift lint On a plugin-channel install the compiled gsd-core/bin/lib/*.cjs are legitimately absent (ADR-457 build-at-publish; the npm package builds before publishing, a raw tree materialization never does). gsd-tools.cjs calls ensureRuntimeBuild() before requiring ./lib; no hook does, so the isolation guard's Cannot-find-module lands in its fail-closed catch and is misreported as an unreadable dispatch-isolation configuration, blocking every executor dispatch. These tests fail on that: cold-tree runs of the isolation guard, statusline, cursor guard and update worker, plus the seam's actionable build error surfacing instead of the generic misreport. Also adds the drift lint the acceptance criteria require, with a fixture proving it CAN fail — a guard never shown to fail is worthless. It is red here by design: it flags today's unfixed hooks, which is exactly the defect. * fix(3582): route every hook's compiled-module require through the self-heal seam RED proven at 5b174b0d: 11 failures — the cold-tree runs for the isolation guard, cursor guard and update worker, the fail-closed-with-actionable-message assertion, and the lint's own real-tree check. The compiled runtime library is produced by build:lib and gitignored (ADR-457, build-at-publish). The npm package builds before publishing; a plugin-marketplace or git-clone install materializes the raw tree and never does, so on that channel those modules are legitimately absent. The self-heal seam added by #2002 exists to heal exactly this, and the CLI entrypoint already calls it — no hook did. The isolation guard's Cannot-find-module therefore landed in its fail-closed catch and was reported as 'could not read or resolve dispatch-isolation configuration', so an ARTIFACT ABSENCE was misdiagnosed as an unreadable project config and every executor dispatch was blocked. All SEVEN affected files now call the seam before their first compiled require. The issue named four; a scan found six; implementing it surfaced a seventh — the shared isolation sentinel helper, used by BOTH guards, which requires two compiled modules itself and would have defeated the guards' own fix on a genuinely cold tree. Same defect class, so fixed here rather than left as a known-broken remainder. Failure posture is deliberately split by hook kind: - Gates (agent isolation guard, cursor subagent start) surface the seam's actionable build error distinctly instead of swallowing it into the generic text, and stay fail-closed — a genuinely unreadable project config still DENIES exactly as before. - Cosmetic and detached hooks (statusline, update worker, update check, update banner) DEGRADE rather than crash: the statusline draws on every render and the worker is a detached process, so a build failure there must not take down the prompt. The npm path is untouched: the seam's already-built fast path returns immediately, so prebuilt installs pay nothing and behave bit-for-bit as before. Adds a drift lint, wired into the CI lint chain, so the invariant is enforced rather than remembered — without it the next hook to add a compiled require reintroduces the class silently. It is proven able to fail: a fixture hook requiring a compiled module without the seam is flagged, and one that uses the seam is not. Verified directly — on the unfixed tree it named all seven offenders; with the fix it passes. While writing the lint's comment stripper, a naive whole-text block-comment regex ate its own fixture, because this repo's comments legitimately spell the compiled-lib glob whose star-slash reads as a comment opener. Rewritten as a line-based scanner with a regression test pinning that case. * fix(3582): test the three untested seam call sites and assert typed reason codes Two independent reviews converged on the same major gap: the fix wired the seam into seven files but only four had cold-tree tests. The adversarial pass put it plainly — deleting the shared isolation-sentinel helper's seam call would not have failed any test in the diff. That file was my own addition beyond the issue's four, so it shipped untested; that is now closed. - Shared isolation-sentinel helper: its seam call is only reached when .planning is NOT directly under cwd, and every existing cold-tree fixture puts it there, so the early return always fired first. Now covered, and proven load-bearing by mutation: with the call removed the spy records zero seam invocations and the test fails. - update-check hook and update-banner hook: cold-tree tests added asserting the DEGRADED VERDICT — the fallback cache filename, and silent suppression when the package name degrades to null — rather than merely 'did not throw'. The banner hook previously had no test file at all. Standards violation fixed: two tests asserted on free-form prose via assert.match against a JSON reason string, which CONTRIBUTING bans by name — its own BAD example is exactly that. The ESLint rule only covers readFileSync/spawnSync text, so tooling did not catch it. Both isolation guards now emit a machine-readable reason_code from a frozen enum, following the repo's existing REASON convention, and the tests assert that instead. The human-readable message is unchanged for operators; only the assertion target moved. The duplicated degrade boilerplate across the three cosmetic hooks was deliberately NOT extracted, and the reason is recorded at each site: both viable shapes — a path-parameterized helper, or a ceremony-only wrapper — defeat the drift lint's per-file literal co-occurrence check, so extracting would require the lint to special-case its own helper. Triplication is the lesser evil while the lint stays a co-occurrence scan. The lint's header now states what it does and does not catch (literal quoted requires only; hooks/ scan root), so a future reader does not over-trust a guard that a concatenated path or a require inside a non-hooks helper would evade. * chore(3582): regenerate the committed install-tree fixtures Adding a new shipped hook helper changed the install tree, and those fixtures are committed-and-derived (regen:derived / gen:install-tree), so 12 'install tree — <runtime>' tests failed on 541a1913. Regenerated rather than hand-edited. The delta across all 15 runtime fixtures is exactly two lines — the new helper under both its hooks/ and gsd-hooks/ install paths — and nothing else, so the regeneration pulled in no unrelated drift. This is the bookkeeping ripple a new file under hooks/ carries; it was not visible from lint:ci, which passed both before and after. * chore(3582): backfill changeset PR number (#3629) --------- Co-authored-by: sim <sim@local> |

chore(#3212): bounded quantifiers over document content — prohibition with teeth — Phase 4 (#3441)
* feat(#3415): ship local/no-unbounded-quantifier, burn down ReDoS class Phase 4 of epic #3212 (ADR-3212 §5/§7, the final phase). New rule flags an unbounded */+/{n,} quantifier over a broad character class ([\s\S], dotAll ., or a 1-2-unit negated class like [^\n]/[^)\n] — the exact #2128-fixed shape) applied to a regex whose match target is data-flow-traced to readFileSync content. eslint-rules/lib/readfilesync-trace.cjs extracts the data-flow tracer shared with no-crlf-fragile-split (Phase 2) rather than a second copy — no-crlf-fragile-split refactored onto it with zero behavior change, parity-tested. Real triage, not 798 mechanical edits: the ADR's census (2026-08-08) screened every unbounded quantifier in the tree unscoped. Correctly scoped to readFileSync-derived content (matching Phase 2's own G2/G3 scoping), the rule found 162 real hits across two detection waves — the second wave (93) surfaced only after a genuine off-by-one bug in this rule's own first draft was caught while writing its RuleTester tests and fixed (the bug silently missed every directly-quantified [\s\S]* with no gap before the quantifier — exactly the class this rule exists to catch). 3 hits landed in production src/ (commands.cts, milestone.cts, roadmap.cts) and were each empirically timed against adversarial input (matching #2128's own measured-not-assumed precedent) — all confirmed linear-time/benign, left unbounded with a measured-evidence comment rather than mechanically bounded. The remaining 159 are test-file fixture parsing (test-author-controlled, fixed-size content, not adversarial input) — each suppressed with a specific, non-generic reason. Zero functional behavior changed anywhere in this diff. tests/no-pending-3212-markers.test.cjs locks the epic's own closing invariant (ADR §7: "assert zero pending #3212 markers remain") — ground truth confirmed trivially true today (no phase left any such marker behind), now regression-locked going forward. Design: .gsd/phase/chore-3415-prohibition-with-teeth/40-design.md Test matrix: .gsd/phase/chore-3415-prohibition-with-teeth/50-test-matrix.md Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#3415): correct rule category mislabel, add CI test-scope entry An orthogonal Standards-axis review found eslint-rules/no-unbounded-quantifier.cjs mistakenly carried meta.docs.category: 'Portability', copied from a sibling rule without realizing what that implied: docs/contributing/cross-platform- portability-rules.md governs an ADR-1703 rule family under a hard "zero escape hatches" contract (tests/portability-rule-disable-ban.test.cjs's PROTECTED_RULES bans eslint-disable for those rules entirely). This rule is not part of that family — it's ADR-3212 (ReDoS/CWE-1333), a different epic — and its eslint-disable-next-line suppressions (159 of them, added earlier this same phase after empirical benign-verification) are an intentional, correct design, not a bypass. Corrected to category: 'Best Practices', matching the actual precedent (no-adhoc-regex-escape.cjs, Phase 1 of the same epic, which is also correctly outside PROTECTED_RULES), and the rule's own docstring now states this explicitly so a future reader doesn't have to re-derive it. Also registers a new scripts/ci-test-scope.cjs bucket so editing this rule or the shared eslint-rules/lib/readfilesync-trace.cjs helper re-runs their own test suites under targeted CI selection — was previously unregistered and invisible to that fast-path (this PR's own gsd-test checkpoint runs the full suite regardless, so this only affects future narrowly-scoped PRs). Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#3415): bound no-unbounded-quantifier's own scanner (CWE-1333, ironic) Security review found the rule meant to catch algorithmic-complexity bugs had one of its own: hasUnboundedBroadQuantifier's negated-class inner scan walked from each `[^` occurrence to the next `]` (or EOF) with no bound, while the outer loop only ever advanced by one character — O(n²) total work on a pattern with many unclosed `[^` runs. Runs unconditionally inside checkPattern on any `new RegExp('literal string')` argument in any linted file, before the (cheap) readFileSync data-flow gate — so a single crafted string literal, no valid regex syntax required, could make `npm run lint` / CI hang. Empirically confirmed both the bug and the fix: pre-fix, n=4000/8000/ 16000/32000 chars took 30.8/115.6/463.8/1874.3ms (~4x work per 2x n, quadratic); extrapolated, the 300000-char repro from the finding would run ~165s. Post-fix (bail the inner scan once units exceeds the rule's own 1-2-unit scope, rather than continuing to hunt for a closing `]`), the same 300000-char input runs in 8.7ms via the real rule module, independently reconfirmed at 18ms via a fresh Linter.verify() call. New regression row in tests/no-unbounded-quantifier.rule.test.cjs asserts the RuleTester run on a 50000-char adversarial pattern completes and returns a defined result — no wall-clock assertion (CLAUDE.md Clock Seams / local/no-elapsed-assertion). Co-Authored-By: Claude Sonnet 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#3415): triage 3 new sites, re-raise ceiling after upstream batch next merged 12 more PRs during this PR's review. Two consequences: - tests/edit-phase.test.cjs (fix #3262, unrelated) added 3 new content.match(/<tag>([\s\S]*?)<\/tag>/) reads of this repo's own workflow .md content — the same Class A pattern as the ~159 sites already triaged elsewhere in this PR. Suppressed with the same established reason. - lint-allow-test-rule-refs' ratchet ceiling needed re-raising again (301 -> 303) for the same reason as the two prior bumps: organic growth from unrelated, already-reviewed PRs landing concurrently, not a defect in this branch's own diff. test(#3090): stop exempting violations under categories that do not fit
An allow-test-rule annotation citing a category that does not apply is worse than no annotation, because it reads as reviewed. Eight were confirmed by reading the assertions each one covered, and auditing the rest found five more plus one refutation — a converter test whose wording described the wrong mechanism while the covered assertion genuinely was deployed-text. The instructive one used the CANONICAL string for the same mistake: STATE.md command output labelled as a deployed artifact. A canonical string is not evidence the category fits, which is why normalising strings alone would have laundered the problem rather than fixed it. Every mapping the audit had inferred rather than code-verified was spot-checked before rewriting, and the ones that turned out not to fit were re-annotated rather than relabelled. Fourteen STATE.md assertions had a typed extractor available all along and now use it; their annotations came out because nothing needs exempting. Eight assertions genuinely need a production change first — CLI stdout and stderr with no structured mode — and are tagged pending-migration-to-typed-ir citing #3090, which is what that category is for. It had zero real uses before this, while one file carried a real citation to migration issue #2974 under a non-canonical tag. Six annotations covered assertions that do no text matching at all. An exemption for a violation that does not exist is noise that makes the real ones harder to audit; those are removed. atomic-write-coverage gains the annotation it always warranted — its own docstring describes a structural-regression-guard while the file carried none. Fifty-nine non-canonical strings across roughly thirty files are normalised, and the allow-test-rule allowlist is regenerated to match. 472 annotations became 463: every one now uses a canonical category, and the two remaining non-canonical strings are ESLint RuleTester fixtures, not annotations. test(#3055): add the process seam so a subprocess timeout is expressible as data (#3066)
* test(#3055): add the process seam and route runGsdTools through it Adds tests/helpers/process-seam.cjs — runNode/runGit/runHook over spawnSync, each returning a typed discriminated union { outcome, exitCode, stdout, stderr, timedOut, signal, killed, code }. Every call is timeout-bounded; there is no unbounded path. runGsdTools becomes an adapter over the seam. Its legacy { success, output, error, exitCode } shape and retry-once-on-kill behaviour are preserved byte-identically, so none of its 136 caller files change. Outcome discrimination was corrected against probed runtime behaviour rather than assumption: a timeout and a maxBuffer overflow are identical on both status (null) and signal (SIGTERM), and differ only by code (ETIMEDOUT vs ENOBUFS). Overflow is therefore classified before timeout. This fixes a live defect — the previous isKilled() treated an overflow as a kill, retried it for a second full 60s run, and then reported "host OOM or scheduler contention" for a child that had merely printed too much. Also widens the ESLint tests glob from tests/**/*.test.cjs to tests/**/*.cjs, which brought 31 previously unlinted shared helpers under the same rules their sibling test files already obey, and fixes the 5 violations that surfaced — including a bare npm invocation without shell:true in tests/helpers/emitted-runtime.cjs (DEFECT.WINDOWS-TEST-PORTABILITY), now routed through the existing portable runNpm helper. Refs #3051 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(#3055): migrate every local spawn wrapper onto the process seam Replaces the spawn body of all 25 local runHook/runGuard/runGate definitions with a call to tests/helpers/process-seam.cjs. Each wrapper keeps its name, parameter list, return shape and post-processing (JSON parse, ANSI strip, env sanitising, field extraction) — only the spawn mechanism changes, so no test assertion moves. The 4 bash-driven wrappers use the seam's explicit `interpreter` option rather than a fourth primitive; it is explicit rather than inferred from the file extension, because guessing an interpreter from a path fails silently when a script's name does not match its shebang. Seven wrappers were previously unbounded and now carry an explicit timeout sized to what each actually runs, not the seam default. Two of those seven (gsd-write-guard, lint-docs-command-form) were absent from the issue's inventory entirely and were found by scanning after the migration. Adds the CONTEXT.md `### Process seam` glossary entry and a CONTRIBUTING.md reference section covering the three primitives, the discriminated union, and the two rules the seam enforces. Scope disclosure recorded in the phase design notes: the issue scoped three identifier names. A scan for local helpers that spawn AND return the spawn result finds 113 across 82 names, 71 of them unbounded, plus 122 unbounded direct git call sites. This change bounds 25 of those. The remaining surface is the same defect class and is NOT closed by this PR. Refs #3051 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#3055): classify an externally-killed child as KILLED, not EXITED Blocker found in this branch's own diff, independently confirmed by an isolated reviewer. A child killed by an external signal — a genuine bench OOM kill — makes spawnSync return { status: null, signal: 'SIGKILL' } with NO .error field. The seam's "no error implies EXITED" rule therefore classified it as a clean exit, and runGsdTools returned { success: false, exitCode: 1 } without retrying. That silently defeated the #969 kill-discrimination for precisely the case it was built for: the old isKilled() fired on `signal != null`, retried once, then threw a labelled resource-starvation error. A real OOM would have been reported as an ordinary assertion failure. Adds a fifth outcome, KILLED, for "no error but a signal is set", and makes the adapter retry on TIMED_OUT or KILLED — reproducing the old `killed || signal != null || code === 'ETIMEDOUT'` condition exactly. SPAWN_FAILED still does not retry (matching the old behaviour, where signal was null). BUFFER_OVERFLOW still does not retry, which remains a deliberate divergence: the old code retried it because signal was SIGTERM, burning a second 60s run on a child that had merely printed too much. All five outcomes verified against the live runtime rather than assumed: SIGKILL -> killed, exit 0/7 -> exited, timeout -> timed_out (ETIMEDOUT), >1MB stdout -> buffer_overflow (ENOBUFS). Refs #3051 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#3055): address standards-review findings on this branch Three findings from the standards axis of the review, all in this branch's own diff. The CONTEXT.md glossary entry this branch introduced was already stale on the branch's own last commit: it enumerated a 4-member OUTCOME while the code had 5, because the KILLED fix did not update it. That is precisely the drift the "module changes update Domain-terms" gate exists to catch, so the entry now lists all five and explains KILLED. api-coverage-gate-e2e compared an outcome against the raw string 'exited' rather than OUTCOME.EXITED, the only such outlier; the enum is now imported and used. A sweep for the other four outcome literals found no further comparison sites. Three call sites hand the literal bash flag '-c' to the seam's first parameter, which the JSDoc described as an absolute script path. Rather than add a fourth primitive, the contract is corrected to match reality: the parameter is renamed `target` and documented as the first argv element handed to the interpreter — normally a script path, but for an interpreter invoked with an inline program it may be that interpreter's own flag. No behaviour change. Refs #3051 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(#3055): assert the cross-platform timeout contract, not the macOS one The remote runner failed on both Linux lanes (node 22 and node 24, identical) while the same tests passed locally on macOS. Two assertions encoded a platform-specific behaviour as a cross-platform guarantee. When spawnSync times out, macOS preserves the child's partial stdout/stderr; Linux discards it and returns empty strings. Verified on node v26.5.1 both ways. The seam passes through whatever spawnSync hands it and cannot manufacture output that was discarded, so the production code was correct — the tests were wrong. Both tests now assert the guarantee the seam actually makes on every platform: outcome TIMED_OUT, timedOut true, and stdout/stderr always being strings rather than undefined or a Buffer. The partial-content assertions are retained behind an explicit process.platform === 'darwin' guard so the macOS coverage is not lost, and the first test is renamed to say what it now guarantees. This is the failure mode the remote matrix exists to catch: local macOS verification would have shipped it. Refs #3051 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#3055): classify a failed spawn as SPAWN_FAILED, not a timeout Windows CI caught two defects the Linux matrix could not. tests/context-predicates-query.test.cjs passes a 32K-char argv value. On Windows that exceeds the argv limit and spawnSync fails with code ENAMETOOLONG, signal null, status null. The seam's fallback rule — "otherwise, status === null implies TIMED_OUT" — swallowed it, so the adapter retried a spawn that can never succeed and then threw the resource-starvation error. The old isKilled() returned false for that shape and returned an ordinary failure result. TIMED_OUT is now identified positively: code === 'ETIMEDOUT' OR signal is set. Anything else carrying an error is SPAWN_FAILED, which covers ENAMETOOLONG, E2BIG, EACCES and ENOENT alike. The signal clause is what keeps a platform whose timeout errno differs classified correctly, so the greedy catch-all is no longer needed. The second defect is a contract regression I introduced and had claimed otherwise. That same test asserts `typeof r.exitCode === 'number'`, and toLegacyShape was returning null for BUFFER_OVERFLOW and SPAWN_FAILED, so the assertion failed on type. The old code returned `err.status ?? 1` on every non-retried failure path. The adapter now returns 1 again for both, and the comment claiming "never coerced to exitCode:1, unlike the pre-seam helper" is retracted: the seam keeps the richer truth (exitCode null plus a distinct outcome), the legacy adapter keeps the old numeric contract its callers actually depend on. Verified on this host: a 4MB argv yields E2BIG -> SPAWN_FAILED; ENOENT -> SPAWN_FAILED; timeout -> TIMED_OUT; >1MB stdout -> BUFFER_OVERFLOW; SIGKILL -> KILLED; clean exit -> EXITED. fix(#2544): stage the CommonJS marker in GSD-owned dirs, not the config root (#2593)
* fix(#2544): stage the CommonJS marker in GSD-owned dirs, not the config root installSharedHooksBundle wrote `{"type":"commonjs"}` over <configRoot>/package.json unconditionally — no existence check, no merge, no backup — on every install and every /gsd-update re-install. On the 11 affected runtimes that file is often user-owned; on OpenCode and Kilo it is the documented place to declare local-plugin npm dependencies, so a user's name/type/dependencies/scripts were destroyed on each run. The uninstall path already read the file and unlinked it only on an exact content match. That asymmetry was the defect: the discipline existed in the codebase, it just was not applied on the write side. Move the marker into the directories GSD creates and fills with its own .js files — hooks/ (all shared-hooks runtimes, incl. Kimi's own root) and the nativePlugin dir (plugins/ for OpenCode+Kilo, extensions/ for pi) — and stop writing the config root entirely. New src/commonjs-marker.cts owns the marker string plus one ownership predicate (absent / gsd-owned / foreign, fail-closed on an unreadable file) shared by ensureCommonJsMarker and removeCommonJsMarker, so install and uninstall cannot drift apart again. Nothing else depended on the config-root marker: package identity is baked at build time (#378/#498) and version resolution prefers gsd-core/VERSION and already tolerates a missing root package.json (#1383) — Codex has installed without one all along. A package.json in plugins/ or extensions/ is inert to plugin discovery, which globs *.{ts,js} only (see installer-migration 006). Uninstall retires the pre-fix config-root marker, so upgrading users are cleaned up on removal, and still never touches a file it did not write. * fix(#2544): point the changeset fragment at the filed PR The fragment's `pr:` field is only knowable after `gh pr create` returns. * fix(#2544): register commonjs-marker.cjs in the tsc-generated ESLint ignore set bin/lib/commonjs-marker.cjs is tsc output (src/commonjs-marker.cts is the linted source), so it belongs in the ADR-457 ignore list like its siblings. Clears the lint-tests no-var failure and the repo-invariants "linted xor ignored" migration-state test. * fix(#2544): pin the kimi CommonJS marker to hooks/, not the ~/.kimi root The UPGRADE 1 test still asserted the pre-#2544 marker location (~/.kimi/package.json). The marker now lives inside ~/.kimi/hooks — the directory GSD itself creates — matching the updated golden-install-parity and install-tree fixtures. Also asserts the root marker is NOT written. * fix(#2544): make the CommonJS marker write path non-fatal Review round 2, Major 3 + Minor 1 + the stagedHooks nit. ensureCommonJsMarker rethrew any non-EEXIST write error and neither call site caught it, so EACCES on a read-only hooks/, EROFS, or ENOSPC aborted the whole install with a raw stack trace. Every other marker interaction in the module is best-effort — removeCommonJsMarker swallows unlink failures, classifyMarker swallows read failures — and this was the write path, i.e. the one most likely to fail on a locked-down config dir. It now returns a new 'failed' outcome and both call sites warn and continue. Sibling found while sweeping for the same defect class: fs.mkdirSync sat OUTSIDE the try block, so an unwritable parent threw past the guard entirely. Creating the directory is the same environmental hazard as writing into it, so it moved inside. Also in this file: - The hooks marker is now gated on `stagedHooks && hooksOk`, not stagedHooks alone. stagedHooks is computed from the SOURCE listing before the copy loop, so it stays true when the copies land but verifyInstalled() then fails — marking a hooks/ GSD did not successfully populate claims an ownership the install did not earn. - The uninstall rmdir of the native plugin dir is gated on GSD having actually removed something from it. Hoisting it out of the adapter-exists guard (so the marker-only case could prune) had silently widened it into deleting a user-created but empty plugins/ or extensions/ dir — the same "don't touch territory GSD didn't fill" principle this issue is about, inverted. - Kimi's pre-#2544 marker at its native hook root (~/.kimi) is retired at the same call site that writes its replacement. That path is outside kimi's configDir, so installer-migration 007 structurally cannot reach it. * fix(#2544): retire the stale config-root marker via installer-migration 007 Review round 2, Major 1 — the PR's headline claim was false for existing installs. Upgraders kept BOTH markers: the new one under hooks/ and the stale {"type":"commonjs"} at the config root, so their config root stayed pinned to CommonJS and their dependency manifest stayed gone until they uninstalled. The migration is unusual in one way, and it is the part worth reviewing: the config-root marker was never recorded in gsd-file-manifest.json (writeManifest records hooks/, agents/, commands/, scripts/ and the native plugin, never a root package.json), so classifyArtifact answers 'unknown' for it and the planner's own guard downgrades a remove-managed on an 'unknown' classification to preserve-user. 007 therefore supplies the "purpose-built detector for an old GSD-owned shape" that docs/installer-migrations.md#remove-managed sanctions — exact content match, the same predicate removeCommonJsMarker has always used — and declares the resulting classification on the action. A package.json with any other content is left untouched, and there is deliberately no backup-and-remove branch: a non-matching file here is not a patched GSD artifact, it is somebody else's file. Scope is all runtimes. The `runtimes` field is OMITTED rather than `[]`: validateStringArray requires the field to be non-empty WHEN PRESENT, while the runtime filter treats an empty array as "all" — so `runtimes: []` throws at plan time and the migration never runs. The metadata test pins this. Kimi is a deliberate carve-out, named in the migration's own header: its marker lived at ~/.kimi, outside kimi's configDir, and migration relPaths are structurally confined to configDir. It is retired by the installer instead. Registration: shipped-migrations table, .gitignore for the emitted .cjs, the EXPECTED_CHECKSUMS baseline, and the ESLint ignore set. That last one is not copied from migration 006 by rote — 006 needs no entry because it imports nothing, while 007 imports node builtins, so tsc emits its __importDefault helper and the `var` in it trips no-var. This is the same lint gate that made round 1 red. * test(#2544): fault-injection and multi-runtime marker coverage Review round 2, Major 2 + Minors 4 and 5. Major 2 — CONTRIBUTING.md:514-531 is mandatory for install/uninstall flows and the suite had no fs monkeypatching at all. Every branch now covered is one whose doc comment claims it as the module's safety posture: - classifyMarker non-ENOENT lstat error -> 'foreign' (the fail-closed rule), with an ENOENT control alongside it so the test discriminates rather than just asserting one side - classifyMarker readFileSync throw -> 'foreign' (present-but-unreadable never downgrades to the permissive answer) — the fixture's bytes are exactly GSD's marker, so the test fails if the code ever answers on content it could not read - a DIRECTORY at the marker path (CONTRIBUTING:521; the symlink case was already covered with a real symlink, the directory case needs no injection at all) - the ensureCommonJsMarker TOCTOU EEXIST branch — the entire reason for flag:'wx' - the new 'failed' outcome, for both writeFileSync (EACCES/EROFS/ENOSPC) and the mkdirSync that used to sit outside the guard - removeCommonJsMarker unlink throw -> false These save and restore fs methods in `finally` rather than using chmod 0o000, which does not fault under root and would pass vacuously in root Docker and CI. Minor 4 — uninstall was driven for opencode only. pi's extensions/ and both kimi locations now have behavioral coverage, install and uninstall, each paired with a user-authored-file case proving GSD leaves it alone. Minor 5 — the stagedHooks gate had no assertion behind its stated reason. A pre-existing, GSD-untouched hooks/ directory is now driven through a runtime that declares skipSharedHooksInstall and asserted to stay marker-free, with its user content intact. Also regression-tests the uninstall rmdir gate from the previous commit: an empty plugin dir GSD removed nothing from must survive. * docs(#2544): correct stale marker prose, register the module, document the trade-off Review round 2, Minors 2, 3 and 6. Minor 2 — six files asserted the installed ROOT ships the synthetic marker. None was load-bearing (all three walk-up consumers are VERSION-first with try/catch and the marker never carried a `version`), but ADR-457:52 is the rationale for keeping a generated module, so a future reader would mis-derive the constraint from it. Each site is corrected to what is now true: the installed tree carries no package.json with a .name at all, because the only ones GSD stages are {"type":"commonjs"} markers and they now live in GSD's own directories. Two of the six needed more than a location swap. hooks/gsd-check-update-worker.js and the platform-gate test both described `require('../package.json').name` resolving to undefined; post-#2544 that require does not resolve at all, so the history is kept accurate and the present-tense claim corrected rather than just moved. And src/runtime-artifact-conversion.cts described the no-root-package.json case as Codex-only — it is now every runtime, which strengthens that comment's own argument for lazy resolution. The generated .cjs sibling needs no edit: it is gitignored build output, not a tracked file. Minor 3 — src/commonjs-marker.cts had no CONTEXT.md entry, unlike every peer module, and CONTEXT.md is the #2 co-change partner of bin/install.js. Added, including the fail-closed posture and the never-throws contract. Minor 6 — the plugins//extensions/ marker shadows the config root for all .js siblings, so an OpenCode/Kilo user's ESM plugin/*.js stays broken. That is exactly what #2544's Fix section prescribed and it is disclosed in the PR body, but the PR body is not documentation. It now lives in the OpenCode section of docs/how-to/install-on-your-runtime.md, stated as a real constraint rather than a pure improvement, with the .ts mitigation and a fallback for ESM plugins. * test(#2544): attribute the CommonJS marker in the emitted-provenance rules The differential emitted-attribution gate (#2723, landed on `next` after this branch was cut) went red on the macOS shards once this PR rebased onto it. Two distinct causes, both real gaps rather than noise: 1. `plugins/package.json` and `extensions/package.json` matched NO rule — the `native-plugin` rule covers `*.{js,cjs, mjs}` only, so the marker read as an unattributed emitted family. 2. `hooks/package.json` fell through to `hooks-built`, which attributes an emitted `hooks/<X>` to a repo source `hooks/<X>`. There is no `hooks/package.json` in the repo, so it resolved to a nonexistent path. Cause 2 is exactly the failure already documented three lines above it for Copilot's `gsd-session.json` — "a code literal, not a built script" — so the fix follows that precedent rather than inventing one: `package.json` is excluded from `hooks-built` the same way, and a dedicated `commonjs-marker` rule attributes the family across all four roots it can appear in (both hooks roots plus `plugins`/`extensions`) to the sources that actually emit it. Deliberately a RULE, not an entry in tests/emitted-drift-ack.json. An ack is for a one-off ripple and goes stale by design — the gate fails a stale ack precisely so it cannot pre-clear the next change on that path. These markers are a permanent part of the emitted tree from #2544 onward, so they need standing attribution. Verified by reproducing the CI failure locally with GSD_EMITTED_BASE: 3 provenance errors + 12 unattributed paths before, 35/35 green after. * fix(#2544): route the #2717 hooks-surface marker helpers through commonjs-marker #2717 landed a second copy of ensureCommonJsMarker/removeCommonJsMarkerIfGsdOwned in src/runtime-hooks-surface.cts for the runtimes that stage .js hooks via dedicated paths (cursor/windsurf/codex). That copy had drifted from this PR's module on the two properties that matter: - ownership probe: `fs.existsSync` FOLLOWS symlinks and reports false for a DANGLING one, so a dangling package.json symlink classified as absent and the write went straight through it. Demonstrated: against the pre-fix copy, ensureCommonJsMarker() on a hooks/ dir holding a dangling package.json symlink returns true and creates {"type":"commonjs"} OUTSIDE that directory. - create: a plain writeFileSync leaves the classify->write window open, where commonjs-marker creates with flag:'wx' (O_EXCL). Both helpers now delegate to src/commonjs-marker.cts, which is what this PR's own docstring already claimed was the single place these rules are enforced. Exported signatures are unchanged (still boolean), so bin/install.js and the #2717 tests are unaffected. The new subtest is the only coverage that fails if the duplicate is ever reintroduced — the two implementations agree on every non-adversarial input, so the existing suites pass against both. * test(#2544): pin the stagedHooks gate on zcode, not windsurf The Minor-5 coverage picked windsurf because hostBehaviors.skipSharedHooksInstall kept it out of the shared hooks bundle, so GSD staged nothing into hooks/ and the marker was correctly absent. #2717 changed that premise: cursor/windsurf/codex now stage their .js hooks via dedicated paths and get the marker beside those scripts. Measured on this tree, windsurf stages 2 .js hooks and receives a marker — so the assertion was pinning behaviour that is now wrong, not the gate it was written for. ZCode is the durable choice: per #1821 it has hooksSurface:'none' AND no plugin surface to spawn hooks, so GSD stages no .js there by either route (measured: 0 staged, no marker). The property under test is unchanged — a user-created hooks/ directory GSD never fills stays marker-free. * test(#2544): use the shared cleanup helper in the migration test Addresses the review's Major 1. The suppression's stated reason — "no helpers import available" — was not correct: tests/helpers.cjs exports cleanup, and the other test file added in this same PR imports it (tests/commonjs-marker.test.cjs). The local reimplementation dropped two protections that are live on this repo's windows-latest lane: the CWD guard (Windows cannot remove a directory that is the current working directory) and the 20 x 250ms retry budget that absorbs the deferred-scan handle Windows Defender holds on newly-written files. Local function and suppression both removed; local/no-raw-rmsync-in-tests now passes without one. * test(#2544): expect hooks/package.json for the #2717 runtimes The fresh-install contract table predates #2717, which stages cursor/windsurf/ codex .js hooks via dedicated paths and writes the CommonJS marker beside them. All three therefore now receive hooks/package.json legitimately. Measured on this tree: codex stages 3 .js hooks, cursor 6, windsurf 2 — each with the marker; cline/copilot/trae/zcode stage none and get none, so their contracts are unchanged. * fix(#2544): gate the #2717 marker writes on having staged something The three dedicated marker writers #2717 added ran unconditionally. Each one mkdirs hooks/ up front and stages its scripts conditionally on the source existing, so with an absent or empty hook source they created a directory, filled it with nothing, and marked it as GSD's anyway. That is the same write-into-someone-else's-territory this issue is about, and installSharedHooksBundle already guards the identical case with `stagedHooks`. The dedicated paths now carry the matching gate: - cursor / windsurf: `installedScripts.size > 0` - codex: a new `codexStagedHooks` flag. The enclosing guard only proves that hooks/dist EXISTS; it says nothing about whether any CODEX_HOOKS_TO_COPY entry landed. Covered for cursor and windsurf by driving each writer against a src tree whose hooks/ dir is empty. The codex leg is defensive and deliberately uncovered: its trigger state needs a package tree where hooks/dist exists but holds none of the allowlist, which is not constructible from a real checkout. * test(#2544): scope the commonjs-marker sources per root The rule declared one flat source list for every marker root, so `extensions/package.json` was attributed to runtime-hooks-surface.cts (which never writes there) and `.kimi/hooks/package.json` to install-engine.cts. That is not merely untidy. emitted-diff.cjs accepts the FIRST satisfied source, so a flat list containing bin/install.js let any change anywhere in that 13k-line file authorise marker drift for every root — the blanket escape hatch this file's own agents-verbatim comment refuses for exactly the same reason. Sources are now derived per root from ctx.rel. Note the rule ctx is `{ rel, runtime }` and carries no `root`, so keying on ctx.root would have sent every path down one branch silently. * test(#2544): state precisely what the zcode assertion pins The comment claimed the test pinned installSharedHooksBundle's `stagedHooks` gate. It does not, and neither did the windsurf version it replaced: zcode declares skipSharedHooksInstall, so the outer guard skips that helper entirely and the gate is never evaluated. The test passes on the runtime exclusion. What it does pin — the outcome a pre-existing, GSD-untouched hooks/ stays marker-free — is still worth having, and is what the review asked for. The two `staging zero hook scripts` tests are the ones that pin a real staged-nothing gate. Comment corrected rather than left implying coverage that is not there. --------- Co-authored-by: Tom Boucher <trekkie@nomorestars.com> |

test(#1974): consolidate 27 installer/hooks remainder tests into module suites
Fold 27 issue-named installer/hooks/statusline/migration/reapply regression files into their canonical module suites (installer-migrations, installer-migration-report, gsd-statusline, reapply-verify-hunks, install-*, gsd-check-update-worker-platform-gate, etc.). Verbatim block-scoped describe wrappers; 276 subtests conserved 1:1. No new files. The one subdir origin (tests/installer-migrations/001-legacy-orphan-files) moved up one level into installer-migrations.test.cjs; its single ../../ module require corrected to ../ so it resolves from tests/ root (verified). Host-env pre-check: no CLI-receiving host sets a redirecting GSD_WORKSTREAM/GSD_PROJECT value. Regenerates regression-name allowlist (222->205), ratchets file-count allowlist (verify 11->8, validate entry removed), makes 16 relocated allow-test-rule exemptions issue-ref- compliant (ADR-456; prunes stale ids). Repoints 15 tests/ references across state-md.md (EN + ja/ko/pt/zh). lint:ci green. Part of epic #1969. Closes #1974. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> |

chore(#604): rename get-shit-done/ runtime directory to gsd-core/ (#615)
* chore(#604): rename get-shit-done/ runtime directory to gsd-core/ Renames the installed runtime directory `get-shit-done/` to `gsd-core/` so the on-disk name matches the package (`@opengsd/gsd-core`), repo, and binary (`gsd-tools`). The npm package name and binary are unchanged; npx/npm consumers are unaffected. Mechanical (bulk, ~90% of the diff): - `git mv get-shit-done gsd-core` - Swept path/identifier references across the repo via `perl -pe 's/get-shit-done(?!-\w)/gsd-core/g'`. The negative lookahead preserves the five legitimate slug variants that are NOT the directory: get-shit-done-{OLD,cc,classic,cli,redux} (old package/repo names). - Build/manifest wiring: package.json (bin, files, coverage globs), tsconfig.build.json (outDir), ~86 .gitignore build-output entries, stryker.config.mjs, scan-ignore files, install.js path strings. - Frozen (not rewritten): CHANGELOG.md history; translated docs (README.<locale>.md and docs/{ja-JP,ko-KR,pt-BR,zh-CN}/). New logic (review here): - src/installer-migrations/003-rename-get-shit-done-to-gsd-core.cts: a proper ADR-0008 installer migration. On upgrade it walks the legacy `~/.claude/get-shit-done/` tree, classifies each file via the prior install manifest, and emits remove-managed / backup-and-remove for managed files while PRESERVING unknown user-added files. Symlink-safe (skips a symlinked root and symlinked entries; bounds-checks every path under configDir). The framework rolls back on install failure. Emptied dirs may remain (framework has no recursive dir-removal primitive) — documented. - scripts/lint-legacy-dir-name.cjs: CI regression guard forbidding the bare `get-shit-done` directory token (split token to avoid self-match; case- insensitive; `(?!-\w)` lookahead allows the slug variants; allowlists CHANGELOG, translated docs, and `gsd-allow-legacy-name` marker lines). Wired into the lint-tests CI job. - Restored scripts/lint-package-identity-drift.cjs detection regexes (the mechanical sweep had wrongly rewritten the old-name patterns it exists to detect) and marked them as intentional legacy references. - TDD tests for the migration and the guard; do.md slash-command guard regex tightened so a `/gsd-core/bin` path segment is not mistaken for a command; changeset + docs/installer-migrations.md row added. Breaking: the installed runtime path moves `~/.claude/get-shit-done/` -> `~/.claude/gsd-core/`. Migration 003 removes the stale legacy dir's managed files (preserving user files) on upgrade. Users with custom hooks/configs hardcoding the old path must update them. Closes #604 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#604): unsweep pending changesets + allowlist injection-example docs CI fixes for the rename PR: - Do not sweep pending .changeset/*.md (ephemeral release-note fragments, like CHANGELOG); reverted those body edits so 5 pre-existing malformed fragments (missing type/pr) no longer enter the PR diff and trip docs-lint. Allowlisted .changeset/ in the legacy-name guard accordingly. - Allowlisted TEST-EXAMPLES.md and docs/explanation/security-model.md in prompt-injection-scan.sh: they contain intentional injection examples / security-model prose; the path-reference rewrites are kept. CodeQL alerts on this PR are pre-existing (alert lines unchanged by this PR; none in the new migration/guard) and are out of scope for the rename. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#604): resolve CodeQL alerts surfaced on this PR The rename diff touched files carrying pre-existing CodeQL findings; per the no-pre-existing-dismissal rule, fixing every surfaced alert rather than waving them off. All behavior-preserving: - scripts/ci-test-scope.cjs: build the config-path match from string .includes() instead of a RegExp over an arg-derived value (js/regex-injection). - src/profile-output.cts: escape backslashes before pipe-escaping desc/safeName so the table-cell escape is complete (js/incomplete-sanitization). - tests/{bug-2643,bug-2808,docs-parity-live-registry}: two-pass HTML-comment strip so a bare/unclosed `<!--` cannot survive (js/incomplete-multi-character-sanitization). - tests/inline-plan-threshold: drop the no-op `\s`->`\s` identity replace, keep the meaningful POSIX-class conversion (js/identity-replacement). Verified: build:lib green; the touched test files + ci-test-scope + profile-output suites pass; lint:legacy-name clean. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#604): correctly resolve remaining CodeQL alerts (regex-injection + sanitization) The prior commit's fixes for two alerts were ineffective: - ci-test-scope.cjs js/regex-injection: the alert is the CLI-arg-derived `file` reaching static regex `.test(file)` calls (not the config rule). Removed ALL regex over file/t — startsWith/includes/=== string checks + an isWindowsHint helper — so there is no regex sink for the tainted value. - js/incomplete-multi-character-sanitization (3 test files): a single `.replace(/<!--...-->/g,'')` can let `<!--` re-form. Replaced with a fixpoint loop (replace until stable) plus a final bare-opener strip. Verified: no regex over file/t remains; ci-test-scope + the 3 test suites pass; lint:legacy-name clean. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#604): make ci-test-scope + comment-strippers regex-free to clear CodeQL CodeQL flags the regex PATTERNS syntactically (regex-injection on the --files arg split; incomplete-multi-character-sanitization on the <!--...--> replace), so loop fixes do not satisfy it. Made these paths regex-free: - ci-test-scope.cjs splitFiles: char-by-char separator tokenizer (no /[,\\s]+/). - 3 test files: indexOf/slice HTML-comment stripper (no .replace(/<!--/)). Behavior preserved; ci-test-scope + the 3 suites pass; guard clean. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#604): unblock security base64 scan on the large rename diff The security job hit its 10m timeout: base64-scan.sh choked on the binary test fixture tests/feat-3594-parser-property-style.test.cjs (embedded NUL/ non-UTF8 bytes -> thousands of bogus blobs + "ignored null byte" warnings), and the ~800-file rename diff is slow to scan regardless. - scripts/base64-scan.sh: skip binary-by-content files (grep -Iq .) — they can't carry base64-obfuscated *text* and feeding NUL bytes through the per-line scanner is pathologically slow. collect_files already filtered binary *extensions*; this catches binary *content* in text extensions. - .github/workflows/security-scan.yml: raise the security job timeout 10m->30m to accommodate very large diffs (the scan itself is unchanged). Verified locally: scan skips the fixture, 0 "ignored null byte" warnings, 0 findings, exit 0. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#604): sweep get-shit-done refs introduced by merging next The branch was updated with next (#614/#384/#618 etc.), which reference the get-shit-done/ dir (still named that on next). Swept the stale references in the merged files to gsd-core so the rename stays consistent and lint:legacy-name passes: - commands/gsd/discuss-phase.md (runtime-launcher shim paths) - src/core.cts (getAgentsDir layout comments) - tests/bug-384-agents-runtime-aware.test.cjs (require path to runtime lib) Verified: guard 0 violations; build green. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#604): exclude gsd-core/ path segments from bug-3683 command cross-ref invariant The #614 runtime-launcher shim added to discuss-phase.md references `${_GSD_RUNTIME_ROOT}/gsd-core/bin/...`. bug-3683's REF_PATTERN excluded path-y refs only via lookbehind, but `}` precedes `/gsd-core/` in the shim, so it mis-read the directory path as a dangling `/gsd-core` command ref (same class as the #604 bug-2954 fix). Added a trailing `(?![\w-]*\/)` so `/gsd-<x>/...` path segments are not treated as slash-command references. Verified locally on BOTH platforms before pushing: - mac (node 26) full suite: 0 failures - gsd-test-runner (linux, node22 image) full suite: 0 failures - bug-3683 + bug-2954 pass. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#604): lazily resolve findProjectRoot in gsd-tools (harden flaky CI) CI intermittently failed state.test's gsd-tools subprocess with "findProjectRoot is not a function" (flip-flopping across legs; not reproducible on mac full suite, gsd-test linux full suite, test:unit, or state.test x8). findProjectRoot is a re-export from core.cjs (sourced from project-root.cjs); binding it via destructure at module-load can be undefined under a load-ordering edge. Resolve it lazily at call time via a small wrapper so the lookup happens after core.cjs is fully initialized. Verified green on BOTH platforms before pushing: - mac (node 26) full suite: 0 failures - gsd-test-runner (linux, node22) full suite: 0 failures - state.test.cjs: 106/106; gsd-tools loads cleanly. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#604): allowlist verification-patterns.md placeholder examples in secret scan The rename git-mv'd references/verification-patterns.md into gsd-core/, pulling it into the secret-scan diff. It documents stub/placeholder RED-FLAG env-var examples (illustrative Stripe test-key / database-URL / API-key placeholders) — not real credentials. Added it to .secretscanignore with the strict annotation, mirroring the existing gsd-core/workflows/plan-phase.md exception. Verified locally: secret-scan-lint --strict OK; secret-scan --diff origin/next exits 0 with 0 findings. feat(#498): single Package Identity seam for /gsd:update + fix runtime undefined-name bug (#499)
* feat(#498): generated package-identity seam derived from package.json Introduce a single source for GSD's published-package coordinates: scripts/generate-package-identity.cjs (pure deriveIdentity + formatManualInstall + render) emits the generated get-shit-done/bin/lib/package-identity.cjs with values baked from package.json at build time. Baking is required because the installed tree carries only a synthetic {"type":"commonjs"} package.json, so a runtime require('package.json').name resolves to undefined (#378). Reconciles Wired into npm run build; a parity test fails CI if the committed file drifts from package.json. Refs #498 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#498): repoint update worker + check-latest-version at the seam - check-latest-version.cjs sources PACKAGE_NAME from the package-identity seam instead of a re-typed literal (single source; #2992's constant guarantee is preserved since the seam bakes from package.json). - gsd-check-update-worker.js no longer does require('../package.json').name (resolved to undefined in the installed tree → background update check silently broken, #378). It now delegates the latest-version lookup to checkLatestVersion(), collapsing the duplicated npm-view call onto the single deterministic adapter and inheriting its typed {ok,version, reason} surface. - Move the PR #3102 Windows shell-gate contract test onto execNpm (where the spawn now lives) and assert the worker no longer spawns npm directly. - Rewrite the #378 contract: worker must NOT use require(package.json).name and must delegate; check-latest-version PACKAGE_NAME is single-sourced from the seam. Fixes #378-class runtime breakage. Refs #498 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * chore(#498): changeset for package-identity seam + update-check fix Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * feat(#498): drift-guard lint — value-check GSD coordinate literals against the seam scripts/lint-package-identity-drift.cjs scans the runtime/code surface (bin/, hooks/, scripts/, get-shit-done/) and asserts every GSD package name and GitHub repo slug literal equals the Package Identity seam's current value. Passes today; fails the moment a repoint isn't propagated (rename package.json, regenerate the seam, and stale literals are reported until updated). This is the second adapter that makes the seam real and a repoint mechanically safe. Enforced via tests/issue-498-identity-drift-lint.test.cjs (scanRepo === []) under npm test; also exposed as `npm run check:identity-drift`. Refs #498 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * feat(#498): update-context projection — port update.md resolution to a tested seam Add get-shit-done/bin/lib/update-context.cjs: a pure, injected-fs port of update.md's ~280-line get_installed_version bash. resolveUpdateContext() reproduces the full precedence cascade (preferred fast-path -> local probe -> global probe via env overrides then $HOME -> LOCAL-if-distinct -> scope cascade -> UNKNOWN) and returns the 4-field contract { installedVersion, scope, runtime, gsdDir }. The fs is injected so every branch is finally testable without a live multi-runtime install. Expose it as `gsd-tools update-context [--config-dir <d>] [--runtime <r>] --json`. Purely additive — update.md is unchanged in this commit; the workflow swap follows separately. Refs #498 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * feat(#498): swap update.md resolution to the update-context projection Replace ~280 lines of inline runtime/scope/config-dir bash in update.md's get_installed_version step with a call to `gsd-tools update-context --json` (60 lines: derive PREFERRED_* from execution_context, resolve gsd-tools.cjs, parse the 4-field JSON). Behavior is unchanged — the projection reproduces the same cascade — but the logic is now tested in update-context.cjs instead of untestable bash-in-markdown. Relocate the #3608 antigravity-first-class contract onto the projection (RUNTIME_DIRS order, inferPreferredRuntime, envRuntimeDirs) plus a behavioral test; keep the execution_context path-classification assertion on update.md. Re-point install.test's custom-config-dir assertion (kilo.jsonc/KILO_CONFIG) to update-context.cjs where that detection now lives. Full root suite: 2022 pass / 0 fail. Refs #498 Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * docs(#498): record Update Context Module in CONTEXT.md Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#498): CI — avoid bare gsd-tools in update.md; register new CLI modules - update.md update-context invocation: resolve the PATH gsd-tools shim into a variable and call "$GSD_TOOLS" (never a bare `gsd-tools` command) — satisfies the #2851 workflow-bare-gsd-tools guard. - Register package-identity.cjs and update-context.cjs in docs/INVENTORY.md (CLI Modules 76 -> 78 + rows) and regenerate docs/INVENTORY-MANIFEST.json, fixing inventory-counts and inventory-manifest-sync. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(#498): make update-context + parity tests OS-agnostic (Windows CI) Two Windows-only test failures, both test-portability (production code is fine — the real-fs CLI integration test passed on Windows): - update-context resolver tests + bug-3608 behavioral test used POSIX path-string keys in their fake fs, but the resolver builds lookups via path.join/resolve (backslash + drive letter on Windows) → keys never matched → everything resolved to UNKNOWN/claude. Normalize fake-fs keys and gsdDir comparisons through path.resolve so they match on both platforms. - package-identity parity test compared render() (LF) to the committed file, which Windows git checks out as CRLF (no .gitattributes eol rule). Normalize line endings before comparing, matching the repo convention (autonomous-decomposition, bug-3707). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#498): update.md backup must use GSD_DIR (adversarial-review finding) The get_installed_version rewrite emits GSD_DIR but dropped the probe-loop variables LOCAL_DIR/GLOBAL_DIR. The backup_custom_files step still read those, so RUNTIME_DIR went empty for every LOCAL/GLOBAL install and detect-custom-files was skipped — and since the update then runs a clean install that wipes managed dirs (commands/gsd, get-shit-done), user-added files could be deleted without the intended backup. Set RUNTIME_DIR="$GSD_DIR" directly (the resolved config dir; empty for UNKNOWN scope, which still skips the backup). Add a structural regression (tests/issue-498-update-backup-runtime-dir.test.cjs). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * test(#503): re-point Antigravity .agent detection at the #498 projection #499 moves the runtime/scope detection cascade out of update.md inline bash into get-shit-done/bin/lib/update-context.cjs. The #503 regression test asserted on the inline RUNTIME_DIRS array, which no longer exists, so it would fail against the projected update.md even though the .agent guarantee is preserved. Rewrite it to verify the surviving surfaces: - behavioral: resolveUpdateContext resolves a LOCAL ./.agent install to the antigravity runtime (the original root cause, now covered by adding ['antigravity', '.agent'] to the projection RUNTIME_DIRS table) - update.md prose classifier still maps /.agent/ -> antigravity - the post-update cache-clear for-dir loop still includes .agent Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.8 <noreply@anthropic.com> * fix(#498): finish de-hardcoding consumers + close adversarial-review parity gaps Restore the consumer de-hardcoding that is the point of the seam, and close the parity gaps an adversarial review (codex) found in the update-context projection. De-hardcode the repo slug + install command in the changeset tooling — #516 only single-sourced the package NAME, leaving 'open-gsd/get-shit-done-redux' hardcoded in scripts/changeset/cli.cjs and github-release-notes.cjs. Route both through the seam's repoSlug/packageName so a rename is a regenerate, not a hand edit. The drift-lint real scan now reports zero divergent coordinate literals. Projection parity vs the old inline bash, as ONE consistent rule (trustedVersionAt) applied on every path: - expand a leading ~/ in preferredConfigDir before the fast path (the bash ran expand_home first; a custom --config-dir ~/foo otherwise fell to UNKNOWN) - trust a version only when BOTH VERSION and the update.md marker exist — fast path AND LOCAL/GLOBAL cascade; a partial dir falls to 0.0.0 keeping scope - apply the same same-path dedup to the 0.0.0 fallback so a partial install probed from cwd===home is not misdetected as LOCAL Adds regression tests for tilde expansion, VERSION-only (cascade + fast path), and the cwd===home partial-install dedup. test(hooks): structural test for Windows npm spawn platform gate
Locks the contract from PR #3102 / issue #3103: the shell option on the execFileSync('npm', ...) call must be `process.platform === 'win32'`, never an unconditional `shell: true`. A regression to `shell: true` would silently change POSIX behavior (spawn /bin/sh -c, signal/exit-code semantics shift, windowsHide can lose effect on some Node versions) — exactly the cross-platform risk flagged in the adversarial review. Test approach: - Reads worker source via readFileSync (hooks/*.js, outside the lint-no-source-grep .cjs scope; allow-test-rule annotated with reason). - Strips comments before checking for `shell: true` so prose mentions in the JSDoc-style block comment do not trigger the regression check. - Asserts execFileSync is still the spawn primitive (a swap to execSync would silently shell-spawn on POSIX and defeat the gate). - Why structural, not runtime: the win32 branch only manifests on a Windows runner and the repo's CI is POSIX-only. All 4 subtests pass. Lint-no-source-grep: clean. |
